Vehicles or Mechanic's experiment vehicles uses?

General Discussion

Howdy!

So I'm curious..

Has anyone used vehicles much, or the mechanic's alternate class feature to have thir own custom vehicle?

I'm curious if folks find them useful or interesting, or just troublesome?

The Mechanic Alt Class Feature sounds pretty neat to me to be honest. but I also for see it being not teribly useful as its just always going to be pretty big. Even when its miniturzed. Unless you're using it to go around, or the battle field is big enough to drive around whie others full attack from it. I feel like in most fights it might be a dead feature?

Much less that you have to pay to upgrade the class feature once in a while.

Originally I thought you could still have an autopilot fire the attached weaponry in minimode but I think it can't and just follows you (ideally not being destroyed)

Although maybe some shenangans could occur with Shirnk Object spell, and the minimode.

It looks like an interesting idea but really might need an adventure designed for it to get much use.

agreed. if you were running a cyber-bikers adventure, it would be amazing. for a traditional adventure? probably not so much.

but it might be really fun in society play.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I mean, its not really that different than any other class feature: the GM is responsible for either incorporating the capabilities of their PCs into the adventure, or else informing the player beforehand "this is the type of campaign I am running, certain things don't fit". Its not like there aren't plenty of campaigns where an experimental vehicle would be perfectly useful, like any game involving planetary exploration or warfare. Even a dungeon crawl could be amenable, if you remember that "In space, no one requires that your dungeon have 5 foot corridors"- if you are exploring a giant labyrinth dug out of an asteroid, where the average tunnel is at least 50 feet wide and goes on for miles, you might *want* to bring your own support vehicle.

This looks like it might be good for Mechanic's experiment vehicles,
Redshift Rally.

Junkers Delight would be a good setting for it too. It's not part of the adventure but the background info on the city talks about their water supply coming from ice caravans. Protecting the ice caravans could easily turn into a roadwarrior-type adventure.

I was hoping to make an experimental skateboard but looks like the Mechanic's experiment vehicles is for larger vehicles only.

Wayfinders

In my campaign, we're doing search and capture of endangered/near-extinct animals from across the galaxy for study and preservation, so a player of mine picked the vehicle option, since it'll come in handy a lot as they travel across various planets (moreso than the experimental explosives which was his first consideration). We're yet to really get going though, so we'll see how it goes.

Could use the Cycle graft and flavor it as a skateboard, perhaps? After all even the basic enercycle is Large, but it's much longer than it is wide or tall.

On the off chance ya'll see this. How'd it go?

I made an entu colony operative that uses a custom flying vehicle in the shape of an ooze. I opted for operative because mechanic experimental vehicle is kind of ehh. Plus you can trick attack with vehicles. I haven't played him yet but some day.

Vehicle speeds are kind of disappointing.... A hollow orb bantrid solarian or operative is so much faster at comparable levels.
