Battle oracle fast healing.

Pathfinder Second Edition General Discussion

Got to play a battle oracle recently. 5th level, so was pretty behind on attacks, figured it would be similar to warpriest, focused on casting and made strikes when I could. Then something happened, I went down to a crit from the boss, and then I just got up at the start of my next turn, since I realized that my curse is still active even when unconscious. Was a great moment. Fast healing is definitely the greatest thing about this mystery, you're easy to hit, but hard to kill with the unlimited fast healing you get, and you don't waste actions getting into your moderate curse because of call to arms is a reaction on initiative. That's all. I like fast healing on demand. Good mystery.

It's not that great when you're hit with persistent damage.

Fast Healing isn't Regeneration, so you can die if you do down on Wounded 3 or to a crit on Wounded 2 (add 1 to both if you have Die Hard).

So you go down, end up prone and empty handed, so when your turn comes up, you wake up and need to use an action (with the Move tag) to stand up, and probably an action to grab your weapon, so you've got one action left.

If you go down to persistent damage, you fast heal at the top of your turn and then take damage at the bottom of your turn, which, depending upon your level and the source of persistent damage, might very well drop you again and progress your Dying/Wounded.

So... be careful.

I don't really see it as a huge deal.

For example, a lvl 10 oracle with a moderate curse would get fast healing 5.

It would also get -1 ( or -2 if the oracle doesn't hit) to ac, which is way better than fast healing 5.

It's a white room scenario, but assuming 40 dmg per round, 5 fast healing is not that great ( it's always better to have +1 more ac).

The greater curse gives stupified 2 ( DC 7+ not to lose a spell), so I won't even consider it.

It may work with a ranged battle oracle though, using fast healing to sustain yourself with no actions.

Yeah it's not that much healing, I just thought it was great when I got to stand right back up again. Pretty valuable especially if you are the designated healer. Working with bastion archetype with reactive shield to mitigate the AC penalty. Working pretty well so far.

Battle Oracles are one of the only builds I want Die Hard on.

I don't think that's entirely the case. A martial would need to do this to contribute, but an oracle can just cast spells instead. If you don't want to waste actions standing you can just use spells without attack roles. That will probably be a better course of action than running back to the fray if you're in that much danger, though if the creature hasn't moved away from you staying in melee to cast is a risk itself.

Also, having heal means you won't necessarily be in those single digit hit points very long.
