Howdy

Has anyone thought about this combo?
Way of the sniper. You can reload while using Hide or Take Cover.
Tower Shield you raise, then take cover behind. Granting +4 Circ AC.
Skirmish STrike allows you to strike and stride or stride and strike.

This would require, however, firearms that allow for multiple shots before a reload. Like repeating hand xbow or I think there are a few handguns that have multiple shots.

So with this, you can move, strike, and hide behind a tower shield. Constantly shifting around the battlefield. Shooting and hiding.

I wonder how this would keep up? I'm pretty interested in a weird build like this. Either based out of Gunslinger, or Alchemist (But thats high level multiclassing).
Damage output I dunno if it'd be enough but it sounds like a lot of versatile fun. Though if out of Gunslinger they have much higher profieincy so they might be able to rock the crits, or have fun with that weakness method.

Reloading is the most problematic point there though. Unless there is some way to make the Tower Shield also count as a one handed weapon? then this feat would fix it I think?

skirmish is "step" and "stride"

but apart from that i was toying with a similar idea:
grabbing inventor MC and getting the gadget feat at 8. That would allow 3 times per day to go into 1minute camo mode where you are considered concealed (that counts for hide purposes) for 1minute (so essentially 3 fights per day)

to go with the theme of tinkering sharpshooter i would also pick up the munitions feat line from Gunslinger, and since we are snipers i would be making exsanguination bolts.

using a reapeating heavy crossbow (so d10, reload 1) and the level 1 xbow feat (so 1d10+2).

probably not the most competitive build, but it sounded like fun. You go into actual Alien mode with chameloen like moving camouflage and bleeding bolts appear from thin air pummeling your enemies. Running reload for when I have to also move around the battlefield.

For a repeater, the Tower Shield would give you some additional AC while you had shots left, but because a Tower Shield requires it be Raised, and you can only Take Cover while it's Raised, you wouldn't have a free hand to perform the reload as it would be taken up wielding the shield and maintaining the raised shield to Take Cover behind.

The Dual Weapon Reload feat is probably a non-starter because of:

Attacking With Shields wrote:
A shield can be used as a martial weapon for attacks, using the statistics listed for a shield bash on Table 6–7: Melee Weapons (page 280). The shield bash is an option only for shields that weren’t designed to be used as weapons. A shield can’t have runes added to it. You can also buy and attach a shield boss or shield spikes to a shield to make it a more practical weapon. These can be found on Table 6–7. These work like other weapons and can even be etched with runes.

Which implies that a shield is not a weapon for that purpose.

A GM might allow it, but RAW it's very grey.

Can you really afford carrying Bulk 4 (on top of its -5' move penalty)?
Or using Raise Shield to Take Cover? Would that two-action combo see enough use to warrant the setup?

And no, a Tower Shield's not a weapon so that feat won't work. (Arguments could be made for other shields since you can attack with them, though not so IMO).
