Eldritch Trickster after Secrets of Magic?

Advice

General consensus a while back was that the Eldritch Trickster was harder to make work than the other rogue rackets, but now that Secrets of Magic is out how does it shape up now? New spells help it out any? For that matter do the Magus and Summoner count as spell-casting archetypes for the purpose of the racket's free multi-class dedication?

By lvl 10, shadow signet would simplify things for an Eldritch Trickster, and by lvl 7 on ( lvl 7-10-12-14 ) you'd be able to get extra slots because of ring of wizardry.

By lvl 6 you'd also be able to take your first endless grimoire.

Apart from that, unfortunately. either magus and summoner bounded spellcasting doesn't count as a choice.

This may be exploited by taking the mastermind ( int score ) or scoundrel ( char score ) and the dedication by lvl 2.

Being an ancient elf mastermind rogue would, for example, allow the character to do something like this

lvl 1: 18 int + Magus dedication
lvl 2: Mobility
lvl 4: Magical Trickster
lvl 6: Basic Bounded spellcasting
lvl 8: Spellstrike/Opportunity Backstab

If you don't care about modibility, you can do with any ancestry, resulting into

lvl 1: 18 int + XXXXXX
lvl 2: Magus Dedication
lvl 4: Magical Trickster
lvl 6: Basic Bounded spellcasting
lvl 8: Spellstrike/Opportunity Backstab

...

Spellstrike is a really good feat you can use once per minute, so I'd definitely consider taking it, as well as for opportune backstab.

Being able to take magical trickster by lvl 4 rather than 2 is indeed going to slow things down, but in my opinion it's worth it ( better a bounded spellcaster with spellstrike rather than a wizard dedication, for example ).

Magus and summoner don't count I think. They don't have basic spellcasting, only basic bounded spellcasting (which is differently named)

The core problem with ET is that the entire benefit is a 2nd level feat - you're better off going thief or ruffian and just taking the dedication feat instead.

Liberty's Edge

Exocist is correct, Summoner and Magus are not valid selections for ET.

Scorching ray with surprise attack is nasty if you have 2 or 3 enemies within casting distance. A nice first turn nuke to add sneak attack damage around the battlefield.
