"Find flaws" needs a static RK DC

Since find flaws is a very specific part of recall knowledge, there should be an easier, static DC to overcome rather than worrying about rarity to determine the DC. That tyrant example with find flaws would make thst tyrant unique and thus have a huge DC with RK normally. Find flaws should have a DC equal to 15+ CR where rarity doesn't matter. You've heard stories of similar foes and can apply weaknesses and flaws to said foes.

So if you're fighting Dracula, its no longer a very high DC, but one that's more manageable.

At level 1, you'll get +7 on the dice and need a 9 to success the roll or a 19-20 to crit success against a CR 1. CR less than 1? DC 15.

This way a major function of the class will almost always work despite what you're up against even if it's a very unique monster.

I think table variance on how Recall Knowledge DCs are adjudicated has a massive impact on thaumaturge. Because GMs are advised to make the DC vary considerably.

For a check about a specific creature, trap, or other subject with a level, use a level-based DC (adjusting for rarity as needed). You might adjust the difficulty down, maybe even drastically, if the subject is especially notorious or famed. Knowing simple tales about an infamous dragon’s exploits, for example, might be incredibly easy for the dragon’s level, or even just a simple trained DC.

As noted in the action’s description, a character might attempt to Recall Knowledge using a different skill than the ones listed as the default options. If the skill is highly applicable, like using Medicine to identify a medicinal tonic, you probably don’t need to adjust the DC. If its relevance is a stretch, adjust the DC upward as described in Adjusting Difficulty.

The skill used to identify a creature usually depends on that creature’s trait, as shown on Table 10–7, but you have leeway on which skills apply. For instance, hags are humanoids but have a strong connection to occult spells and live outside society, so you might allow a character to use Occultism to identify them without any DC adjustment, while Society is harder. Lore skills can also be used to identify their specific creature. Using the applicable Lore usually has an easy or very easy DC (before adjusting for rarity).

So you have a DC that varies by the skill you use and the creature's rarity and the creature's notoriety, which might be level based with adjustments and others are simple DCs. That's a lot of stuff, GMs are going to land on a lot of different numbers even in the same situation. I agree, it'd be nice to have a static formula for Find Flaws as opposed to the Recall Knowledge setup.

Honestly at this point I'd be in favour of a fixed DC just because I see so many people who don't adjust for notoriety. Sure.

It's not that they can't it's that is you ask 20 people what the end DC should be you might get 20 answers and none would be incorrect as the adjustment for notoriety is 100% DM fiat. So a fixed DC would be awesome in comparison.

I'm a fan of that too.
a compound weirdness would also be their esoteric lore. as using Lore skills typically comes with a lowered DC. but how much its lowered and even if its lowered is also up to the GM. So that is yet another point of variability. Its a level 1 feat and given competition with skill upgrades and the various RK types you'll want. I figure that level 1 feat will be one folks look at fairly frequently. Even at trained its ability to apply to all means they could spend points on flavor or ability skills instead of recall knowledge as much.

So having a specific methodolgoy for this skill would be great.
