Some of the Implements could certainly serve more offensive functions in combat, like blinding enemies with the lantern or coating your weapon in poison from the chalice. I'd prefer these to be open ended (such as picking a property rune to add to your weapon implement, a spell to cast from your wand, a light spell to cast from your lantern, a potion from your chalice, etc.)
But also a feat to let you use a non-weapon implement as a weapon would also be cool just so you can bonk someone with whatever.

The only issue is that Improvised Pummel and feats that use/require it break the item.
Yeah, but you don't need to take those unless you're trying to move onto another archetype quickly.
Improvised Critical is nice also since it can get you critical weapon specializations without taking the Weapon implement.
Additionally, even though I'm not sure it would work but, you MIGHT be able to use any of your various esoterica with Makeshift Strike.

Yeah, that was the point: without the "break your item" feats, you're either stuck in the archetype or you take feats that you don't want to use. If it's the only archetype you want, then there isn't a problem.

You're only delayed by a class feat. I mean, if it's that significant, sure, don't take it but it's not like you're waiting until 12th level to finish it. With free archetype variant, you can possibly start off with a different archetype and get your 3 early enough to start Weapon Improvisor by 6th and then even finish that off quicker as well.
