Techno Demon Plague

Advice

So in the current campaign I am running I am planning to do a techo demon plague. Mechanically it will be infecting NPCs (and potentially players) with both the Demonic Corruption and the Promethean Corruption.

The technology in my game is at steampunk levels (black powder and clockwork) but slow progressing.

For the demon lord behind it I was thinking Haagenti, The Whisper Within, Lord of Alchemy and Change as I couldn't find one that is related to technology.

Because It is demon spawned cybernetics and biotics merging with demons I was going to allow some things from the technology guide.

Id also like to change the cure, but involving both cures. So Im thinking the blood of the the outsider that infected you along with invasive surgery combined with a powerful healing/regen spell or miricle/wish.

The blood of the outsider that infected you seems a bit specific. If someone kills that outsider and doesn't save some blood for you you're doomed permanently? Maybe something like a pool blessed by a unicorn, in an area untainted by technology, in place of that blood. Or 'pure' mechanical grafts/prosthetics blessed by a servant of Brigh perhaps. If you want to go with the blood of an outsider, make it of that type not that specific individual.

I agree that is a bit specific. I want the cure to be difficult but not impossible. Maybe the blood transfusion of a celestial(or an angelic blooded aasimar) given willingly combined with intensive surgery and a regeneration spell, restoration spell and a miracle. Difficult and extensive but curable.

This should be a lot of fun...

I am not going to comment too much about the Corruption mechanics. A character at a table I was playing at caught a Corruption at a really early level, and the GM forced a bunch of extra Fort saves that were rolled behind the scenes... we all knew the character was eventually going to turn into a Construct, but it was always the worse possible options. We looked it up, there were options to each stage, and the character could have been getting natural armor instead of decreased speed... from the same Corruption... or whatever the choices were.

The point is, don't completely remove all the player agency if their character catches this Corruption of yours. It's not fun. It doesn't add a level of urgency. It doesn't make the game harder. It just blows. Literally ruined the campaign because nothing that player did mattered, no choice he made had any meaningful impact on the fate of his character. Game over, man. Game over. So, I guess I said quite a bit about Corruption mechanics. Lol. Be careful, because they suck. Lol.

Outside of that, I think VMC Sorcerer for the Nanite Bloodline could be a neat "template" to use for enemies with class levels (even NPC classes).

I really like Haagenti's 2nd Sentinel boon... if you are into building NPC's to the point they might be taking/given Fiendish Obedience and Damned Soldier, that is.

If you want something really fun to use for this plague of yours, look up the Koatri from the Forgotten Realms. Those things used to latch on to you and transform you into one of them... sure you could use that with your Corruption. And they are known for producing Koatri Resin, which makes weapons with x4 crit multipliers, regardless of the weapon's type. This resin could easily be shown as alchemical [Haagenti's thing] or technological in nature, although I think it comes FROM the Koatri, themselves.

I would definitely give a player choices if infected. I mean they should have some control over the character if they failed a save because I agree nothing is worse then just being hindered to be hindered. They will definitely get choices of what “upgrade” when time.

I also am thinking of a “suppressant” it doesn’t flat out cure it but it temporarily halts future advances that doctors learned through research. Maybe daily drinking of holy water or go deep into homebrew lore like blood of a unicorn will cure (or suppress in this case) but is highly addictive and taints the soul for murdering it or blood of a adult or older gold dragon on the regular will hold off future stages.
