Tbh, this is up to your GM. Your mount would lose its Dodge bonus to AC while climbing (unless you play with Climbing Unchained rules and have 5 ranks in Climb), but riders don't lose their Dex/Dodge bonuses while Mounted. Your movement is certainly hampered while riding in a saddle, but you can still lean left, right, back, and forward to dodge incoming attacks. But I think it can be ruled either way.

the mount won't loose it's dex if it has climb speed. creatures with climb speed keep their dex when climbing.
as for the rider. it's more up to the gm, i myself wouldn't make the rider loose his dex to ac, if the mount itself is agile enough and good enough in climbing to not loose it (as in it has a climb speed).
"A creature with a climb speed has a +8 racial bonus on all Climb checks. The creature must make a Climb check to climb any wall or slope with a DC higher than 0, but it can always choose to take 10, even if rushed or threatened while climbing. If a creature with a climb speed chooses an accelerated climb (see above), it moves at double its climb speed (or at its land speed, whichever is slower) and makes a single Climb check at a –5 penalty. Such a creature retains its Dexterity bonus to Armor Class (if any) while climbing, and opponents get no special bonus to their attacks against it. It cannot, however, use the run action while climbing. "

There we go, problem solved :P

na, see that is why copied the words from climb skill.even creatures with climb speed can't use run action while climbing. unlike flying or swimming.
i think it's to prevent auto hit and run since those without climb speed are moving at like 1/4 speed. if you allow climb speed to also run then it's too fast to ever get close to.

So...the rider shouldn't lose their Dex/Dodge bonuses when giant gecko climb because they use the climbing speed of giant gecko?

Ryze Kuja |

Correct, riders don't lose their Dodge/Dex bonuses while mounted. The only time they might lose Dodge/Dex would be a situational thing, like if you're riding your mount through a tight corridor and you're considered Squeezing. But for the 99% of other situations, the rider doesn't lose their Dodge/Dex.

You could say the same thing about a flier with reach or a swimming enemy?
