Reincarnate, Resurrect, Clone and Pharasma

Rules Discussion

Hello, for the 3 rituals, there is :

Quote:
If Pharasma has decided that the target's time has come...

Is it possible to negotiate with Pharasma or an herald if Pharasma has decided that the character's time has come ?

With Legendary Negotiation, Shameless request, asked to Pharasma to permit that the character will regain life if the character destroys some undead.

Thanks for your future answer.

That's a GM/plot question. Not something that can be answered with rules mechanics.

Not really: That text just means 'If the GM has decided this being isn't coming back, it ain't coming back no matter what the players do...'

The court of Pharasma has been depicted as a bone covered bureaucracy. Divine servitors, psychopomps, and all do their best to keep the flow of souls going and judged correctly. Cases that require Pharasma's intervention may not be commonplace, but her docket is several hundred years full--probably not an issue for petitioners awaiting judgement but for adventurers trying to do something meaningful in a timely fashion--more problematic.

That's not to say its impossible to get face time with the Lady of Graves. And if you're a character with Legendary skills in diplomacy or negotiation, its not inconceivable you could come out on top of such an encounter.

But how possible it is and much effort is required and how difficult it would be are going to be questions only a GM can answer.

I honestly don't think that any amount of negotiating skill would matter in this case. Pharasma is a god, and given her role she probably just knows absolutely within herself whether it is time for someone to stay dead or not. She is the ultimate decider of fate and mortals just don't have the perspective or knowledge to have a valid opinion to present to her.

It seems to be pretty specific that Pharasma knows when everyone's "time" is and I don't think that it is even possible for her to go against her nature enough to violate those rules.

Heck, one of the roles of her church and her psychopomps is to actively hunt down people who avoided dying when it was their time.

I would say that it is possible to avoid dying when it is your time (hence why she needs to send minions to hunt people down) but that you can't do it by convincing pharasma, you need special magic to do it.

Of course, in game terms, I think that in general the only time when it is doing to be "just that person's time so that can't come back" is when the player doesn't want their character resurrected or the GM doesn't want a particular NPC resurrected - I think it's an important clause for player available resurrection spells to have so that the player/gm has an out.

I'm noticing a bit of a trend. Most of the OP's questions (across various topics) are better directed at a GM. My read is they are really excited to play Pathfinder and are taking their enthusiasm to the internet. Which is great! But I'd recommend taking it to the GM first. Not only will they be happy to see how immersed you're getting, but you'll be able to signal to them what kind of game you want to play and what kinds of challenges you are looking forward to.

The boards are a good place to come when you're GM isn't sure on the answer to a question. But in general PF2 doesn't assume an adverserial GM/player relationship. You aren't trying to pull one over on the GM through the rules, you're trying to craft an interesting story together. Your GM can reject literally any answer we give you on the board.
