A Handy Haversack has two side pockets that hold about a quart of material & the main backpack area. These are specifically listed as:
2x pockets -> 2 cubic feet / 20 lbs each
main area -> 8 cubic feet / 80 lbs
Also available are:
Bag of Holding, Minor -> 6 cubic feet / 50 lbs
Bag of Holding, Type I -> 30 cubic feet / 250 lbs
Bag of Holding, Type II -> 70 cubic feet / 500 lbs
Bag of Holding, Type III -> 150 cubic feet / 1000 lbs
Bag of Holding, Type IV -> 250 cubic feet / 1500 lbs
* Both volume and weight limits apply. You can max out the weight limit without reaching half the volume limit if you load it exclusively with gold pieces, and the reverse if you are loading with feathers.
The Op mentioned a Portable Hole, which only has volume limits, not weight. At 282 cubic feet, it is roughly equivalent to a Type I Bag, but has a much larger access point.
Also note that the Handy Haversack has the specific property that whatever item you want, is immediately at hand. The Bags do not have this property; you have to fish around in the bag like any normal sack with multiple items in it.

What level?
Eventually it has got to be easier to just throw it in a personal demiplane...
Lesser Demiplanes and Magnificent Mansions have a minimum volume of 210 cubic feet available. Sure, they are 7th level spells, but if we are at the point where Portable Holes aren't enough... probably about time to take matters into your own hands.

Right now, the 'Command Crew' is level 7.
I'm wondering specifically about the Portable Hole because it has no limit in weight, just volume.
I'm going to recommend to the GM, that since a smuggler hold is 5x5x5 (125 cubic) and it takes 2 to hold a plunder point, that a Portable Hole could hold that.
We've been converting our plunder into gems, which in our campaigns are all used as currency and therefore sell at 1:1 instead of 1:2, so it's not a huge concern at the moment. I was thinking more long term.
I'm also going to look into enchanting the ship to increase it's internal volume. Got to be rules on that somewhere.....

The Captain's Locker is relevant to your interests. It is not only extradimensional storage space, but it also increases a vehicle's cargo capacity.
The Chest of Keeping is another form of extradimensional storage.
The Corsair's Coffer is another form of extradimensional storage, but is also pretty bulky in and of itself.
I think the Captain's Locker is most relevant to your interests, but I haven't sat down and crunched the numbers for every form of extradimensional storage space.
