Can a target that you use Detect Thoughts on tell its being scanned? For example:
Our party Inquisitor wants to use Detect thoughts by casting it outside a busy tavern (So the casting goes unnoticed), then walk in and take a seat and begin scanning all the patrons, searching for a specific lead.
The question that arose is that due to the Will Save, would everyone scanned know something magical was happening to them?
People don't know they are rolling will saves in the same way people don't know they roll perception checks. Though, if someone succeeded, they would realise someone is trying to look in their head.
Ahh. That would be the catch to using that spell...

Yeah, successfull save = they know they succeeded against a psychic attack. But not more.
Most of the time it should be preatty obvious who was the culprit, but not always.
