Had a character idea I'm trying to flesh out, so I thought I'd get some other people's opinions.
Basically, the character is a half-elf, but with a dwarf parent instead of human (since now with a GM's permission you can use the half-elf versatile ancestry on non-humans). So which pairing of parents would be cuter or funnier when the inevitable "meet my embarrassing parents" moment comes? :P
An elf dad and a dwarf mom? A dwarf dad and an elf mom?

Is your character supposed to be the family exception or all the siblings are supposed to be dwarves with half elf heritage?What if he DOES wanna be a smither, though? :P
Also, I was planning on him having brothers, so that ruse'd be kinda hard to keep up...
I had thought of going with the latter, and using them as PCs later, to sort of go down different life-paths: one an oracle, one an inventor or something, that kinda thing...

Assuming that your character is male is his appearance more on the elf or dwarf side? That would make your dad an elf or dwarf too, just for your girlfriends "your dad is hot" moments. ;)

I like that idea, but it kind of feels like a double-edged sword: if the elf is the dad, then it's stereotypical, because elves are hot by default, but if he's a hot dwarf, then it ends up playing out like that awkward, unnecessary romantic subplot in the latter two The Hobbit movies...I do find the idea of the dad being a dwarf so hot even non-dwarves find him attractive absolutely hilarious, though...

My favourite way to introduce my PFS Champion of Torag is "He wears a heavy armor, a heavy shield and a heavy warhammer. He is gruff and loves nothing more than the forge. He is everything a dwarf should be, except that he is an elf."
(Cavern elf adopted by dwarves)
I guess in such a world as you describe, a honorable dwarven maiden could have been smitten by his ironclad adherence to the proper dwarven ways of Torag and they might have ended up happily married and with children.

Ooh! Ooh! I got it! Dwarfdad and Elfmom run a meadery together! Mead is a happy middle-ground between dwarf beer and elf wine, so Mom uses druid powers to raise happy bees and makes the honey, which Dad uses to brew the mead!
They'd have all sorts of embarrassing pet names for each other like "queen bee" and "honey bear" and PC son goes into smithing not because it's expected of him, but out of respect for family traditions and to channel his mystical connection with fire into something positive!

I took ancient elf ancestry when I did something like this. Kind of blurred the family life details as my character was 20 years out of Five Kings Mountain when we started. But ended up apprenticing to two or three different crafts, and then left the mountains for good to find more interesting occupations.
The half-dwarf with an elf father would be even funnier. I can just see the scene now...
"You'll never understand coal mining, father."
