If weapon gets weapon specialization, why doesn't armor get armor specialization? Or is it simply because its built in as a level 9 breakthrough instead?

It does feel weird to me that the armor innovator doesn't get specialization

What even is the armor specialization of armor innovations? Since you get this specific armor instead of picking a base armor.

I vote it should be picking a base armor in fact!

it does say that it's medium Composite armor. So you would be getting the medium composite specialization, since specializations are tied to armor group and not specific armors.

And for the heavy breakthrough it says that it's heavy composite, so even for that the specialization is clear.

I also want armor selection to be a choice. Being able to go Stealth Suit Inventor was actually something our group tried to build. We still did it and ended up going Rogue MCD (Composite at least doesn't hurt stealth), but it would have been nice to lean into the more DEX based themes and not go 16 STR just to avoid armor penalties.

Just a "hey pick a base armor set, and then modify accordingly".
