Hello! So I've got the pieces of a build I've been wanting to put together but I'm not sure what to do with them. I want to be a fighter, specifically an Eldritch Guardian and Mutation Warrior. I want to make use of the UMD skill I'll gain. I want my familiar to have the protector archetype to give me some insane survivability later on. I want to take a level in Tattoo Sorcerer to be able to turn my familiar into a tattoo. And all of this comes together into... what? I don't know what to do with it. Do I just get a greatsword and start swinging? Do I go weapon finesse with an elven curved blade? Grab a reach weapon? I don't have a clue. Help? And before anyone mentions it, I'm not interested in having my familiar have the mauler archetype. I'd prefer something a little more off the beaten path if possible.

The thing I really like about Eldritch Guardians is that the Familiars have all the Combat Feats you have. I think a Mauler Familiar is more typical, but I do like Protector Familiars, too.
I like the idea of an Eldritch Guardian loading up on all those Teamwork Feats they normally couldn't use.
Do I go weapon finesse with an elven curved blade?
If you want to go Crit Fishing, then take Seize the Moment or Outflank, Improved Crit, and Paired Opportunist. I like Elven Curved Blade. I like Estoc and Rhoka (more for Bladebound Magi). Although I also like the idea of 2 weapon fighting with Kukris to maximize the chances of scoring crits. When you get a chance, take the Focused Weapon Advanced Fighter Weapon Training and replace the 1d4 Kukri Damage with the level-equivalent Sacred Weapon Damage. If you take AFWTFW as a Feat, your Mephit Familiar would get it, too, and both of you would be inficting extra damage with twin kukris, each with a 15-20 Threat Range.
Although, if loading up on Teamwork Feats is all you want to do, then you might as well skip Eldritch Guardian and take the Fighter's Tactics Advance Weapon Training which lets you use Teamwork Feats as if all your allies had them.

I think Improved Familiar for something that has hands to use weapons is a must- getting ALL your combat feats means whichever build you go, your familiar has those options too.
So you could have a Mauler Archetype Wolf or something, but a Formian Worker can use your Two Weapon Fighting & Advanced Weapon Training feats too. . .

My Eldritch Guardian/Mutation Warrior went with a level in Unchained Monk(for imp unarmed, flurry, AC, stunning fist, combat reflexes), and the feats Intrepid Rescuer/Paired Opportunists/Combat Reflexes/Monkey Style/Evolved Familiar(Reach on Bite)/Weapon Finesse/Piranha Strike. Protector Familiar(Squirrel) and the fighter pretended to be a Merfolk/Triton(depending on the GMs reading of disguise self, since Undine Mostly Human).
So I was always prone, but took no penalties and my Squirrel was also prone(no penalties), in my square. Stand as a swift action, move fall prone as a free action in the new square. The familiar has 'normal' 5' reach because of evolved familiar feat.
If a melee enemy attacked either me or my squirrel the other took an AoO which triggered an AoO from the one attacked. If the 'rescuer' hit, then the attack takes a -4 so the AC is actually pretty decent for both. Both 'high' dex, so Agile of Mighty Fists for both and 4-5 potential AoOs per round.
We both get Stunning Fist uses per day, since that is also a combat feat.
Plus, we got to play the literal fish out of water shtick.
I like the idea of a Mephit Familiar, get Improved Familiar when you get a chance. Mephits have Fast Healing, so that offsets the fact that they take half the damage you take.
Improved Familiars generally can't be Protectors/Mauler/etc. This is because they don't have the Speak with Animals of its Kind ability to trade out. There are a few archetypes that do still work like Sage and maybe a few others.

Too bad. Then The OP should invest in some way of healing his Familiar, such as a Wand of Infernal Healing, or maybe give the Familiar something like a Ring of Regeneration.
Inquisitors get Fast Healing as a Judgement, and when they reach a certain level, they can give allies Fast Healing via the Shared Judgement Feat.
