Spell Perfection Arcanist?

Rules Questions

1 person marked this as a favorite.

So Spell Perfection offers two main benefits - it doubles any numeric bonus from feats, and it allows you to apply one metamagic spontaneously without affecting the spell's level or casting time. Arcanist can apply metamagic both spontaneously and by preparation, but not both on the same spell (unless you have a specific exploit). So my question is - does Spell Perfection allow you to apply a metamagic to a spell with metamagic already prepared? The feat and the spontaneous metamagic are two different ways to change your spell, after all.

I fear you might have mistaken the threads, this is for second edition and i think you are looking to ask about PF1, unless i realy got distracted and paizo released overnight arcanist for PF2 (and also changed a few rules)

Not yet, though you can get pretty close to arcanist flavor if you're an arcane sorc who takes Arcane Evolution and grab a spellbook.

Spell perfection acts a lot like spontaneous metamagic but it's not quite the same, and it's certainly not the means of applying spontaneous metamagic mentioned in the arcanist class description. You could apply spell perfection's metamagic to a spell prepared with a metamagic feat (assuming you weren't applying the same feat twice or something.)

Yes you can use Spell Perfection to apply a Metamagic Feat to a spell you have already prepared with a Metamagic Feat, provided that the total modified level does not exceed spell level 9.

For example, if you have Spell Perfection with the lvl 6 spell Disintegrate, and you prepare that spell as an Empowered Disintegrate in a level 8 slot, you could not then add Maximize to it spontaneously via Spell Perfection, because the spell level would be 11. But if you have Spell Perfection on a lower level spell, such as level 3 Fireball, and you prepare an Empowered Fireball in a level 5 slot, you could then use Spell Perfection later that day to add Maximize or Dazing to that Empowered Fireball spontaneously because the spell level would only be 8, although it only consumes a level 5 spell slot because the Maximize or Dazing would be added for "free".
