PC becomes master to a Raktavarna

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Raktavarna

One of the various Rakshasa's, a Raktavarna is a reincarnated Rakshasa who has utterly failed in their previous incarnation.

I thought it'd be grand to have this critter attach itself to the party - Another PC-interpreted resource/treasure that I am really using to feed exposition for context and side adventure hooks.

Anyone else ever experienced or "used" this monster in their campaigns?

I have not, but it seems like a wonderful thing in a 1st level loot pile.

More for story than an actual encounter. But letting it use its Charm could be fun at low enough levels.

I am using it not "against" the PC's, not ruling it out for much later... but rather found as a loot item whose previous master was killed and has picked a master from among them.

For now, "Bishma," is a handy shape-shifting spy for that master/the party and recently (session-wise) completed its first mission for that master.

How willing to use 3rd party are you? The Spirit Blade archetype is excellent archetype for a weapon that aides its wielder.

eh, they shouldn't be too helpful, after all they're servants of rakshasa ranas, not whatever mortal they happen to be hanging around.

Nothing says they have to be helpful all the time. Sure, a weapon that attacks on its own sounds great... until it strikes an ally or the wielder.

It was just an idea.
