I like to read builds to help me find stuff to try because I cannot help but munchkin a bit. I have a question about a couple things I was reading in another post about munchkin'ing a monk. One of the posters mentioned an apex item and having certain items by certain levels. Can you guys enlighten me on what items normal characters should I have by what levels so I can make sure the groups I play in are kept up to date I guess with monsters. The four games I am in are all pretty low level except one which we are level 8. While it is not high there are definitely some fights that are rough. And also what is an example of an apex item?

Source Core Rulebook pg. 628 1.1
When you Invest an Item that has the apex trait, it improves one of your ability scores, either increasing it by 2 or to a total of 18, whichever grants the higher score. This gives you all the benefits of the new ability score until the investiture ends. An apex item grants this benefit only the first time it’s invested within a 24-hour period, and you can benefit from only one apex item at a time. If you attempt to invest an apex item when you already have one invested, you don’t gain the ability score increase, though you do gain any other effects of Investing the Item.
The apex items in the CRB are (all level 17 items) Anklets of Alacrity (dex), Belt of Giant Strength (str), Belt of Regeneration (con), Circlet of Persuasion (cha), Diadem of Intellect (Int), and Headband of Inspired Wisdom (wis). Since that's one for each stat I wouldn't expect to see many more Common ones coming out; the GMG has a Rare level-18 spiffy version of the Diadem of Intellect called the Genius Diadem.

Generally you are expected to have maxed out weapons and armor for your level (including Striking and Resilient Runes) and an Apex Item around 17th.
Optimization also generally suggests that you have maxed out Skill Bonus items for any Skills you care about.
That's really it in terms of expected items.

I guess other than the Apex item bit that Fuzzy answered so well my question is what are the levels certain items are more or less expected. Like it is expected you to get striking by level 4 or armor pluses by 5.
Yes, it is. The items quite literally have levels, and by the end of that level you're expected to have them (so you're expected to have Striking runes on your weapons by the last few encounters of level 4).
The level they are listed at is the level you are expected to acquire them.

I believe there is a table that shows that exact progression in the GMG, though I don't know where it is offhand.
I think you can find it if you look at the table for Automatic Bonus Progression, since that table would follow the same expected math, more or less.
Yeah. That was my thought too. If you keep pace with the Automatic Bonus Progression then you should be good.
