Taverns of the Inner Sea

Product Discussion

Greetings all,

This is a bit of a triviality, but... still, I want to see if I can get this right.

In the Subject doc, on page 12, there is a reference to an NPC, "Thallon", who is tagged as a "N corrupt guild member", and cross-references to Pathfinder RPG NPC Codex, page 121.

Unfortunately, page 121 of the NPC Codex describes:

> Rider of the Steppe
> Half-elf Paladin 14
> LG Medium humanoid (elf, human)
> etc.

Searching the Codex for "corrupt guild member", or "guild member", etc., I am unable to find what the original reference might have intended, or even a relevant substitute for it.

Anyway, I'm hoping that, perhaps, one of the authors of Taverns of the Inner Sea (Kate Baker, Eleanor Ferron, Michelle Jones, Jason Keeley, Luis Loza, Jacob W. Michaels, Joe Pasini, David N. Ross) might be monitoring these "Paizo Products -> Product Discussion" posts and can enlighten me.

That's it. Simply put, what NPC archetype is "Thallon", from page 12 of Taverns of the Inner Sea?

Thanks!

I guess the closest is the "shopkeeper", from NPC Codex page 257. The alignment is overwritten in Inner Sea Taverns (N instead of CN), while the race fits (elf) and the CR as well (4). I also checked some other books and I am surprised to find no "corrupt guild member" at all. AoNPRD doesn't have any either, but I am not sure what books they used for their table.

The smaller books seem to have the issue that fewer people check the content - accordingly there are more oversights per page. It's unlikely you will get an official reply from any author, given the edition switch, long time since release and the small scope of the issue.

Wait, what?

Since when did people start checking content? There actually is an editor team? Of people?

Maybe I would have joined the sarcasm, but I can't. Because I do programming as part of my job and know how customers mostly notice the (relately few) remaining problems - not the many fixes before release, not the many, many problems you avoided in the first place.

That said, I am not content with Paizo's policy of "we don't update player companions and smaller campaign settings" either. But this point is kind of moot nowadays.

@Sheep, I didn't know that they had such a policy (i.e., "we don't update player companions and smaller campaign settings"). Where would I find their policy statements?

And, yeah, as you also said, "It's unlikely you will get an official reply from any author, given the edition switch, long time since release and the small scope of the issue." That is completely understandable and acknowledged.

@Voodist, I am undismayed by your dismay : - )
Having spent the last 40 years of my life in software-related jobs, I am well aware that the first things that fall to a project's budget axe are those involved with testing (and, often, documentation).

Anyway, back to this situation. I'll find, or create, a suitable replacement (starting with @Sheep's "shopkeeper" suggestion.

Hey... HEY... HEY!!!!

As I was typing that last paragraph, something tickled my inner spidey sense. Why would there be a specific, erroneous, page # reference? That's an odd error... What if, I thought, What if they actually meant to cross-reference page 121 of... wait for it:

Pathfinder RPG Villain Codex

???

Well, sure enough, there it is, big as life, on page 121: "Corrupt Guild Member CR 4"

Whoo hoo!!!

Thanks, for the responses guys. If I hadn't seen them, I probably wouldn't have given this any more focused thought.

Note to Authors: Crisis averted. I know you were all poised to help me out on this, but the problem has been resolved, and you may stand down.

Cheers,

Hah, Villain Codex, good catch. Makes sense actually...

I don't know of any official statement, but there seems to be no second printing of any player companion / (~64 page) campaign setting. I checked a few randomly selected PDFs and they only have the sentence "Printed in China" (respective "Printed in the U.S.A" in one case). The RPG line has a sentence like "First Printing November 2016." before that.
