When creating a nanocyte higher than 1st level, start by creating a 1st-level nanocyte and then apply the leveling up process as normal for each level.
When choosing major and minor forms for your gear array at each level, use the following numbers for your nanite investment value for that new level to determine which forms you can select.
For example, at 5th level, you can choose your new major form for that level (as well as replace a major/minor form) as though your nanite investment were 4,200.
After choosing your forms at your nanocyte's maximum level, your nanite investment amount is equal to the price of the most expensive form you've learned (rather than the amount listed on the table, which is your maximum for that level). Deduct this amount from your starting wealth (Table 11–15: Character Wealth per Level on page 391 of the Starfinder Core Rulebook).
For example, if your new nanocyte is 6th level and their most expensive form is a corona laser pistol (which costs 4,270 credits), they start with 10,730 credits (15,000 starting wealth minus 4,270) to spend on gear.
Level: Nanite Investment
2nd: 1,350
3rd: 2,000
4th: 3,000
5th: 4,200
6th: 6,200
7th: 9,500
8th: 13,000
9th: 18,000
10th: 25,000
11th: 35,000
12th: 50,000
13th: 72,000
14th: 110,000
15th: 165,000
16th: 245,000
17th: 365,000
18th: 540,000
19th: 810,000
20th: 900,000

This chart is not for SFS, is it? I follow those rules instead? I am just asking as my character build that I am testing is not really putting much into Nanite investment.
If was making a character from this chart then if one invested nothing into their Nanite investment, would the Nanite investment be the total from the previous level this chart shows?

This chart was generated as a response to a question of how to create a (playtest) Society character and their options.

Then I will still use the posted rules for how I make a SFS character as those state for SFS and this just says how to build level per level. Those are not the same things. Maybe it is for SFS but Organized play has rules and this is not listed there yet for use. This gives how much wealth someone has and subtracting from it. The SFS rules list an armor or weapon choice of level and level -1 + set number of credits.
The Official Con discord playtest channel even has the SFS page pinned for making a playtest character and not the chart. If that changes then I will change how I build.

The starting weapon and armor in the SFS playtest are not what you have in your gear array, at least not immediately.
In SFS the main limitation is that you can only invest a level 3 item at level 2, and those typically top off at 1650 credits or so. You make enough money in the course of 2 levels worth of level-appropriate SFS scenarios (4320 credits) so that buying a level 3 item at the end of 2nd level is no problem. Which makes me question why, apart from a bookkeeping fetish, does the investment score actually exist? I suppose it might make more difference at level 5 and beyond when you can swap forms at each level, but a mechanic has to work at starting levels, too, because that's where about 70% of gameplay happens.

If this chart is something the class gets whether as column or just added to things received each level then that would be great. It makes things even easier then on leveling up but not perfect. Access is the biggest problem for SFS. There is no longarm at level 4 that is CRB and 2000 credits or less. There is only one level 4 longarm from CRB.
That is just the longarms. There is not a single weapon 2000 credits or less from CRB at level 4 that a SFS could pick without it being on a chronicle sheet. This part of the class is very much neutered in SFS.

If I am creating a 4th level nanocyte, what investment do I use for my level 1 forms?
You would buy your 1st level gear out of your starting 1000 credits, and then decide how much of the remainder you want to use for your starting investment. So, if you're like me, you buy Second Skin for 250 credits and then dump literally every dime you have into your starting investment, allowing your 1st level forms to go up to 750 credits.
I suppose, since you're creating the character at higher level, you could just invest your whole 1000 credits and buy gear out of your bonus cash for starting at 4th level, but that seems like a bit of an exploit, since your character would probably not have done that.

I am a bit late on this. bit looking to build one for a home campaign. I will be starting out at 11th level.
Do I get to select my major (5 total) and minor (9 total) as I wish? Then what ever my highest costing is what I subtract from my starting wealth? I am still a bit lost in how to do this properly.

You go from level 1 to 11, picking gear for the slots as you're leveling, but the cost of each item has to be equal to or below that nanite investment column for that level. All the while also swapping out gear as you level.
Then you just check the highest cost gear you have selected, and minus that's cost from your WBL.
