Permanency

Rules Questions

I can see that Permanency has had some updates, but the list of spells that are Self Only still seems a bit light.

I admit, one that I would want would be Innocence. It's not game breaking, but just the idea of a character always exuding a supernatural level of Innocence sounds awesome to me.

The last line of Permanency leaves applications up to GM fiat.

Generally, if the GM allows the spell, then it's a matter of setting the caster level required (which is typically spell level +8, with cantrips counting as L1 spells), then assigning a material component value of (caster level -8) x 2500.

However, it's explicitly part of the Permanency spell that the base spell's caster and the Permanency's caster must be the same; and scrolls of Permanency get hella expensive with the caster level and material component scaling. Innocence is a bard and mesmerist spell, while permanency is a sorcerer (etc) and psychic spell.

Better to UMD a scroll of the other spell in that case. (:

Where are these updates to permanency found?

Yeah, but the character is a bard, so I'll have to save up for that scroll I suppose. :)

Archives of Nethys has only the standard list at the permanency spell entry, but I'd use their search function for quick results:

https://aonprd.com/Search.aspx (spells/rituals only, permanency as keyword)

For convenience, those are listed (a few might use the word permanency for something else, though):

Quote:

Spells

Alarm, Alter River, Animate Objects, Anthropomorphic Animal, Appearance of Life, Arcane Sight, Arcane Sight, Greater, Aura Sight, Cloud of Seasickness, Comprehend Languages, Corpse Lanterns, Create Demiplane, Create Demiplane, Greater, Create Demiplane, Lesser, Create Mindscape, Create Mindscape, Greater, Curse Terrain, Lesser, Dancing Darkness, Dancing Lantern, Dancing Lights, Darkvault, Darkvision, Decrepit Disguise, Detect Magic, Enchantment Sight, Enlarge Person, Ghost Sound, Gust of Wind, Invisibility, Invisibility Alarm, Light, Loathsome Veil, Lost Locale, Lost Passage, Mage's Private Sanctum, Magic Fang, Magic Fang, Greater, Magic Mouth, Mark of Buoyancy, Obscured Script, Permanency, Phase Door, Planar Refuge, Poisonous Cloud, Preserve, Prismatic Sphere, Prismatic Wall, Read Magic, Recorporeal Incarnation, Reduce Person, Resistance, Resize Item, Sanctify Corpse, Scintillating Wall, Secret Sign, See Invisibility, Shrink Item, Solid Fog, Soul Vault, Speechreader's Sight, Stinking Cloud, Stolen Light, Symbol of Death, Symbol of Healing, Symbol of Laughter, Symbol of Mirroring, Symbol of Revelation, Symbol of Scrying, Symbol of Slowing, Symbol of Strife, Symbol of Striking, Symbol of Vulnerability, Telepathic Bond, Teleport Trap, Teleportation Circle, Tongues, Toxic Blood, Unhallowed Blows, Unhallowed Blows, Greater, Wall of Fire, Wall of Force, Wall of Light, Web, Yellow Sign

D20PRSRD has the extended list also. Effectively, if a spell is already in a Paizo Pathfinder book, it was wrote with an eye to adding to the list. If it is in a third party book or a personal spell (i.e. one you invented yourself), then the last line applies.

After the core rule book was published, individual spells say if you can use permanency on them and how much it would cost.
