I'd gravitate toward Smart/Alchemist or Smart/Inquisitor. All 3 get a lot of Skill Points: 6 or 9. I'd favor a Gun Chemist or a Grenadier if you can't be a Gun Chemist. Exploding Arrows are cool, and if there is anything cooler than Exploding Arrows, it's Exploding Bullets. And I would really like to see what a Gunchemist would do with a weapon on autofire, shooting bursts of 5 exploding bullets at a time!
For Inquisitor, I'd favor the Flotsam Subdomain of Water. They get this power called Sift, that lets them reach into any quantity of water and pull out any object they want with level-determined gp limits, and it will have the Broken Condition. This seems just about perfect for a highly-skilled inventor character who solves the party's problems by having or making just the right tool for the job on the fly.
