What class would a phony psychic / fortune teller be?

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

I.E someone who doesn't really have any magic powers, but is good and reading and deceiving people. I'm thinking maybe a rogue with a lot CHA and points in social skills.

Sovereign Court

Slayer? Study target gives bonuses to Bluff & Sense Motive (and knowledge, perception and survival checks in addition to attack and damage).

So by extension, Sanctified Slayer archetype for Inquisitor (though does actually have magic). Inquisitors get 1/2 level to Intimidate, Sense Motive and Survival. They can also get Wis to Bluff with the Conversion Inquisition, or roll twice with Clandestine Inquisition Wis mod times per day, or both with the Heresy Inquisition, or add your Wisdom as well as your Charisma modifier to deceive using the Politics inquisition.

Look at the Counterfeit Mage and False Medium rogue archetypes.

INVESTIGATOR with the STUDENT OF PHILOSOPHY background trait.

Then take EMPATHY and ROGUE TALENT: CONVINCING LIE.

To use these on every check you want EXPANDED INSPIRATION and UNDERWORLD INSPIRATION.

To make them better you can take AMAZING INSPIRATION and TENACIOUS INSPIRATION. For extra giggles be a HALF ELF for the favoured class bonus.

At level 13 (when you get Tenacious Inspoiration) you get free inspirstion on bluff and diplomacy checks, Inspiration is (roll 2d8, discard the lowest) + 3, and for Sense Motive checks you can roll the inspiration twice as well (so roll 4d8 and pick the highest, then add 3). (Also once per day you can detect thoughts and read someone' mind, but you said fake psychic, so never mind that part)

EDIT: I forgot you also get to use your INT for Bluff instead of CHA. If you go Empiricist you use INT on Sense Motive as well.

Phony psychic astrologer screams Bard or Rogue to me.

All you really need is a high Bluff Check.

Perform Fortune Teller?

Charlatan (Rogue) is my guess.

Mine was a bard who, funnily enough, ended up a paladin.

His brother, on the other hand, was the real deal but had to keep up the appearance of being a charlatan for, ah, reasons. (Yeah, I know, there's a trope for that.)

1 person marked this as a favorite.

This trope only works if you make him a wacky detective, with a straight-laced partner and an ex-cop dad. In that case I'd also endorse the Investigator route.
