Vesk-4 inconsistency in the Near Space book

General Discussion

While reading the chapter on the Veskarium, I noticed an odd lore inconsistency with regards to Vesk-4's history.

On page 38, the book claims that the discovery of the solarian crystals deposit by the soon-to-be high despot occurred just before the gap...

...but on page 41, the book claims that Kamilanva made this discovery two years before the Swarm attacks on the Veskarium and the Pact Worlds.

I assume the latter is the truth, but it seems like a mistake that wasn't caught by editing.

Treat it like 40k lore. One's rumor, one's myth/propaganda, both are lies, all of it's true.

Given the Gap spanned a period of centuries, if not millenia, I'd be more inclined to treat the latter statement on 41 as the accurate one myself.

Is it really that much of an inconsistency ?

Before the Vesk conquest, Vesk-4 (then Talphiriax) had a preexisting solarian tradition : the spiritual leaders of the Talphi were powerful Solarians. They're presumably the ones who found the crystals in the first place.
Those solarian leaders also died en masse during the brief resistance to the Veskarium invasion, taking most of their ways and knowledge with them.

Fast forward to 289 AG, an enterprising vesk and latent solarian rediscovers the crystal deposits, realizing their nature and potential as whe awakens her own.

It's not crazy : we've certainly lost and rediscovered (or not) things in less time than that in our magic-lacking reality, especially during times of war and/or colonization.

Right, but I think what they're saying is the text accidentally implies the founder of Corona Academy and current High Despot of Vesk-4 was the one who discovered these crystals, then the Gap happened, and somehow this self-same vesk lived through the entirety of the Gap and the Veskarium's renaissance, only to rediscover said crystals Post-Gap, use them in the Swarm War and found the Academy after that, when I don't think vesk lifespans are quite THAT long...

As a matter of fact, I think the Core Rulebook gives Vesk a lifespan slightly shorter than humans.

I'm working off the wiki, which doesn't appear to have that bit. My bad.

That said, agreed : clearly an editing mistake then.
The only sapients we have that were already there pre-Gap and are still around, afaik, are immortals, undeads or unaging constructs, and the Vesk are very much none of that.

The Talphi certainly knew of the crystals in the before times, but the bit about Kamilzanva, of all people, discovering them both before the Gap and almost 3 centuries after it should likely be ignored. Considering she's the current reigning high despot, I'm guessing you can safely disregard the pre-Gap mentions.
Although, I still expect the deposits to have been known once, lost and then rediscovered.

Unless they're two DIFFERENT Kamilzanvas, the Post-Gap one being, like, the great-great-great-grandaughter of the Pre-Gap one! :P

I just assumed the pre-Gap reference was in error. All other details fit the pre-Swarm War timeframe.

I know, I was just making a weak attempt at humor. :)
