Armor resize?

Rules Discussion

So, last week our intrepid heroes found a suit of splint mail +1, with its former Small-sized owner still within. We looked around a bit in the rules and could not find anything about magic armor adjusting its size and fit to the wearer.

So, the way I figure it is that if you find a wrong-sized suit of magic armor, the thing to do with it is basically to transfer the rune(s) over to an appropriately-sized one, rather than have the original one refit. Am I missing something here?

in PF2, there's no distinction between "small-sized" and "medium-sized" items so that splint mail is already good-to-go for anyone in the party (unless you've house-ruled in tiny or large ancestry options).

As for other items changing size... not sure if that's mentioned anywhere, but it probably should be. having to take extra steps in order for a piece of treasure to be used just because the GM picked a giant to gain it from rather than something medium-sized isn't adding anything meaningful to the game-play experience.

It appears that small and medium creatures gear is largely interchangeable. It's only once you get into large size equipment that there is any issue.

Equipment size rules.

If it's something that concerns you or your players, however, it's a pretty easy houserule to implement. Just give it a Crafting DC based on item level and have it take a day of downtime to resize.

That just says that the items cost and weigh the same, not that they are the same.

I mean, a T-shirt generally costs the same regardless of if you're getting it in size S or XL, but that doesn't mean that an XL-sized dude can wear a S-sized T-shirt. And that's the difference between small dude and big dude, while the difference between Small and Medium characters in game terms is more like the difference between a toddler and a grown man.

Sure, in reality you are correct. But the rules are very clear that items for Medium and Small creatures are functionally the same. There are 0 rules for converting one to the other, in fact there are no rules for getting plate armor fitted that I can find anymore.

If you want you can home brew some rules for altering the size of various pieces of gear, but that is what it would be: Homebrew.

The rules in this case are pretty black and white.
