"those who remain"

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

So, the book Concordance Of Rivals says that Pharasma created the current multiverse, is the last survivor from the previous multiverse, and works to protect it from "Those Who Remain" some kind of beings who live outside the multiverse. Any idea who or what these might be? I know some other books imply that the qlippoth came into the Abyss from outside the multiverse. Could they be connected some how? Maybe Rovagug is actually a One Who Remains who managed to break in?

They are Outer Gods, the Great Old Ones and other Lovecraftian horrors.

Rovagug isn't one of them. The origin of Rovagug was revealed in a recent blog post The Windsong Testaments: The Three Fears of Pharasma.

In JJ's replies in that post's comments you can also find some of things about the Abyss and qlippoth.

Wait, but the Outer Gods are inside the multiverse (just in space really far away)

They are now.

And before the universe was created, they remained. And they shall after the universe ends. They're outside of the cycle of creation in that way.

What's more, in a fight between Azathoth and Rovagug, Azathoth wins!

(Presupposing James still feels that way.)

James does, because James feels that Lovecraft's creations take precedence over his own.

It's pretty appropriate that Azathoth would win that fight since Azathoth represents the horrifying indifference of an vast, cold, alien universe.

Rovagug wants things, albeit the destruction of all things, whereas Azathoth would laugh at the concept of desires were it capable of perceiving that there are beings who want things and also laughing.
