Pathfinder Friday on Aug 30th, 4-5 p.m. Pacific will be showcasing the Lost Omens World Guide!
What questions will you have for our guests Mark Seifter and Eleanor Ferron who helped make the book come to be?
We will do our best to answer what we can from the forums, chat, and other outlets!
Can find us live here: https://www.twitch.tv/officialpaizo

It would be nice if questions about existing material were addressed (see this thread). I worry that second edition will become like the first edition where a push to produce new material apparently left little or no time to address questions or issues with older material.

Yeah, while it is nice to see active advertising, it stings kinda wrong to ask for rules to be answered and then ignore that initiative in favor of marketing new books. The sequence of events here has a possibility of souring the reactions and looking worse if the "ask your questions to be answered" wasn't opened in the first place.

I would also highlight that they gain access to spellcasting, particularly transmutation and illusion spells.

Anyway, in good faith:
Pathfinder Agent is a really cool archetype. One of the greatest fun we had so far in PF2 was discovering joys of team-work, as our Cooperative Nature Rogue loves to finish off a turn preparing to help an ally.
The Deft Cooperation feat of Pathfinder Agent caught their attention immediately. However, Deft Cooperation talks about giving a friend an AC boost (and then getting one yourself). We were not aware that this was something you could do!
Could you elaborate on all the interesting and possibly unobvious spaces to explore with Deft Cooperation? Can a person try to Aid a DC of their Wizard friend, distracting the monster from the magical power about to surge their way? Can a charismatic cooperator erode away willpower of about-to-be charmed target, giving the extra push to sway the mark?
Could a medicine trained chirurgeon expose and point out the weakest spots of a big monster, providing an Aid on the damage check once the friendly Rogue rapiers it?
I know this is a lot of "well, ask your GM!", but we are all new to Pathfinder (and this genre of RPG in general); so without at least some examples and set boundaries, the GM cannot really feel comfortable making a ruling and extrapolating without proper context and seeing the "this is OK but pushing the limits, and this is outside of them" end of the spectrum to know where to put a limit.

When I originally wrote Deft Cooperation, it was with the Assist action, which we removed from the CRB relatively late on, and the editors and I caught that removal for LOWG but then I forgot that when we rolled Assist into Aid that AC wasn't one of the options, so that's on me; the fix I made did not go far enough. The Aid reaction's trigger requires attack rolls and skill checks.
Questions that really go into rules nitty gritty like this, however, are less likely to be ones spotlighted in Paizo Friday, and this one is a good example of one reason why that is: to discern what was going on, I needed to look between two books and remember something about previous versions. On the spot on a stream is not a good venue for that kind of determination. Whereas asking about the philosophy on how one of the chapters fits together, or like the formatting of the chapter intros with the maps and resources and flags (or anything in that vein, just a couple random ideas in that direction) are better for a live stream.

What is the best venue for these sorts of questions?

Thats cool! One of reasons why I think it is absolutely OK to not answer this kind of questions on stream is exactly what you said, especially since it is better to be silent than then need to correct the correction.
ONe of perks of creating threads like this is the ability to prep for questions that are not spontaneous.
Anyway, less rigid question:
Archetypes from the book feel like a nice vertical slice of what this design space offers. Which Archetype did you like working on the most, and which one you are most excited about as a glimpse of the future possibilities?
Between the vanilla but fun Pathfinder Agent, "archetype into another archetype" Hellknight, and straight out "so you want to be an X-Men" Runescarred and Monolith archetypes, there is a lot to be excited about. So many different ways archetypes can personalize a character, both in terms of fluff and mechanical expression! It is really cool that this mechanic can organically reflect both getting a specialized training from an organization and redefining your human condition with weird alien magic.

I would much prefer they address rules questions in a written form located on their site, such as an errata document or FAQ page, then for them to cover all of them through a livestream. That way they have more time and control over what is said, a better way to confer with each other and create a consistent ruling, and can place it somewhere the user can skim to find what they want. I do want those questions covered, but comments in a livestream seem like an unwieldy way of doing so. Seems like livestreams are a much better venue for showcasing interesting features/products.

Agreed. I think it was just unfortunate move to do the "ask your questions!" thread, because due to the phrasing it had, it hyped up people for immediate answers next Livestream, and now each time the stuff won't be answered, there will be some unfortunate betrayal of expectations.
Better to not promise and surprise that to raise a possibility and then not deliver. For one or another reason, our perception tends to categorize "raised possibility" as a "promise", and then gets salty.

I don't know what would be appropriate questions for this so I'm just gonna throw a bunch of spaghetti at the wall and see what sticks.
Why did the Palantine Eye shift their focus from the Whispering Way to the Night Heralds? It seems like they're help is needed now more than ever.
What's the Church of Pharasma doing in response to the Whispering Tyrant returning (fingers crossed for planning a crusade)
For that matter, what's Ustalav doing in response?
(and how does the vampire population of Caliphas feel about a lich upturning the apple cart?)
How's Geb dealing with the whole situation?
How's Nex dealing with how Geb is dealing?
How's Alkenstar dealing with how Nex and Geb are dealing?
How's Alkenstar's economy dealing with the sudden lack of fabulously wealthy adventureres buying up all their guns?
Luis Loza said there would be more about the Firebrands in the Lost Omens Character Guide but could we get a little preview of what they're deal is and maybe about the archetype?
Could Cayden Cailean conjur a tankard of ale so big that even he couldn't drink it?
That's it. Thanks for making it this far :)

Another broad question:
This book probably had an interesting design dilemma. While a lot of initial PF2 playerbase is probably the PF1 returnees who know and love the setting already, there is also the non-trivial playerbase that has little next to no exposure to the previous iteration of the game and Golarion.
What challenges had you to face when balancing the compromise between making the book a good starting point for new people, while also appealing to returning players for which things vital for newcomers might be unneeded repeating exposition about something they already knew?
I imagine it is an intimidating problem to solve, because it could have been easy to accidentally alienate one or the other!

So I guess I can work a question about the retraining rules here. The second feat for the living monolith archetype is rare, which is fine because it requires going to a specific place and getting specific people to perform a specific ritual. Is the intent of the retraining rules clause of "can't retrain for a feat if you didn't meet the prerequisites when you gained that level" to lock people out of this feat until they can travel to Osiron and participate in said ritual, or if they can't manage this until they are a higher level is it permitted to retrain a lower level feat?
Like if I'm a GM, and I have a player wanting to take an archetype that has a narrative requirement (e.g. fight a devil with a hellknight watching), should I make sure that they are able to fulfill that narrative requirement right at the time the player would want to take the archetype, or should retraining work in case the levels don't quite line up?

I'd certainly agree that a written document would be far superior. I posted here primarily to share my belief that FAQs, responding to questions about existing material, and errata are as important as developing and promoting new material. I would rather see the design team NOT doing livestreams and instead taking the time to produce written errata, etc.

Guess my question for this material is. How long have passed since 1e to 2e. The events of 1e, how it affected Golarion? What was the outcome of such things?
Hell Knight Equipment will be available for players that wish to follow that path? Same for the other major factions like PFS, Red Mantis Assassin and so on.

Community relations is challenging. I appreciate the recent push on all fronts and hope it continues.
Also, though, I think you will find that of the community that will be In attendance and will likely discuss the stream afterwards, will be more appreciative if the questions solicited on the forums were given responses.
Information on this particular book is fairly easy to find.
In fact, I would suggest every Friday should be, at least half and half, with regard to community question responses. Moreover, there needs to be a moderator on the Paizo that is organizing the questions and presenting them to the guests.
Anyway, this is just me musing out loud.

You and WHW are absolutely right that the call for questions specifically for last week's show could have been better since it might have implied nitty-gritty rules questions. We are working together across departments to refine the messaging on that, and as a start, this week, for instance, it didn't mention "rules questions." We actually did answer a pretty big percentage of the community questions last week that weren't of those sorts, it's just the thread didn't have very many of those, I think mostly due to our miscommunication of expectations. Moving forward, I'm hoping we can better communicate the types of questions that work better in this format (see my examples above), since community questions in general are amazing and offer great opportunities to talk about the game!

My question is this: Why is the Lost Omens book from Amazon delayed until September 10th when people who ordered it from Paizo are getting it earlier? The core books from Amazon were delivered on Aug 1st, same as Paizo subscribers. Will this be a new policy that buyers from Paizo get books 2 weeks earlier than Amazon buyers?

![]() |

The delay by Amazon is an Amazon decision, not a Paizo one. I have heard that local game and book stores have typically had books on or very soon after the street date. But ordering directly from Paizo is usually the fastest way to get new products.
Faster yes, but I'm paying $24.56 with free shipping on Amazon vs $36.99 + paying for shipping from Paizo. I'm not working right now so I need to save what money I can.

Thanks for the answers! it was a fun stream. I'm sad I missed it and had to watch a VoD, but I'm really grateful for the TLDR on the various regions and iconic personalities - I'm a total newbie when it comes to this setting and getting such kind of passionate, but condensated and on-the-point review of various places gave me a good starting point to plan out my strategic reading of it when I raid my friends place and get my hands on the book.

Aldori dueling sword = 2gp
That's a relief. I could have made a case for "yeah, it costs as much as plate mail or a composite longbow, since these things are all custom" but it's better if people taking the archetype at level 2 can afford it.
As for the pronunciation question from the stream, I would suggest adopting the Star Trek rule- whoever is the first person to say the name of something, however they say it is the way it's pronounced for the duration and no one argues.
