Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes

and

heck frickin' yeah!!!!!

Welp, I've gone from planning to subscribe only to see That One Episode of What If? and then canceling immediately to subscribing a bit more.

And yes, I know this was mentioned in the movie thread but I wanted to extract the news for some proper fangirling. I may have in fact awakened/frightened/caused my neighbors to call the police with the squee I gave off seeing the She Hulk logo. I know they've announced other shows as well which I'm sure folks can make threads for if they wish. I've read it will be live action. Hope so. Even if it's animated tho, just happy to see these two characters get some visibility.

I note the tags on the Marvel pages specifically tag to Jennifer Walters and Kamala Khan respectively so I am very hopeful we'll get to see these two. Mainly I'm just excited to post about something Marvel related that I'm actually happy about. Woot!

SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Ahem.

Kamala won't be limited to just her TV show either:

Quote:
The new series was announced during Marvel Studios' presentation at the D23 Expo in Anaheim Friday evening. Ms. Marvel will mark the live-action debut of the titular hero, presumably the currently-active Kamala Khan version from the Marvel comics. Moreover, her appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe will not be limited to the Disney+, as it was also confirmed the character will make the jump to the big screen after being established on television.

-

And adult Monica Rambeau will be popping up in some capacity in the WandaVision TV show.

It'd be neat* to see Rambeau, Khan, and Danvers all on the same movie screen at the same time.

While I'll be saddened if Tom Holland's Spider-Man is officially out of the MCU (I still think DisneyMarvel is using this as leverage to a renegotiated profits/control deal with Sony), there already is an existing character who builds on Stark's legacy and would be perfect for MCU TV shows and movies.

I'm hopeful that if it goes well, I too will squee for the fact we might get She-Hulk joining up and creating a new Avengers to fight...someone? Maybe Korvac?

I'd love to see an Ironheart film or series with Pepper and Rhodey providing support and training.

While I understand everyone's love for Spider-Man (and I have loved the character myself since childhood), I am still bitter that their securing the character in the MCU meant Sharon Carter got all but written out of Civil War. I mean, I get he is a waaaaay bigger character so of course they would. But it sucks that one of the most important characters in Cap comics got relegated to Cardboard Cutout Blonde Love Interest #254 in the movie while we got superhero overload in what should have been Captain America 3 and should have primarily starred Cap-Family characters (Cap, Bucky, Sam, Sharon), because Feige and the Russos couldn't contain their hardon for Spider-Man (and they further got steamrollered by RDJ's contract for appearing). So there is a huge part of me that actually hopes Spider-Man is out and we'll get focus on other characters instead, because all he does in the MCU is steal the spotlight from everyone else. Besides, it's not like there will stop being Spider-Man movies, and the Spiderverse movie showed they don't need the MCU to build their own lore.

(And yes, I did see that Sharon will be in Bucky and Sam's show. Still feels like too little, too late for her. But I do hope Emily Van Camp finally gets to play the character she was told she was going to get to play five years ago.)

As for the OT I agree, Amby, I hope they can build up to Kamala, Monica, and Carol all being on screen together. Indeed, I was annoyed/baffled at Captain Marvel 2 apparently coming out forever from now, but if they're building up more of the "Captain Marvel" world in these series in the meantime that works much better.

She-Hulk I really want to see as a solo series a la Charles Soule's run where she is a lawyer trying to defend superheroes. Sadly, the role Patsy Walker played in that comic will probably have to be taken by another character.... but then maybe they will find someone else cool to fill Hellcat, Hero for Hire's shoes.

Liberty's Edge

This is off topic I know, but to respond ... I will be heartbroken if Tom Holland’s Spiderman is forced out of the MCU. For me, he was one of tne absolute BEST parts of the current MCU and I was beyond excited for Spiderman 3.

Back on topic, I was never into She Hulk or Ms. Marvel when I was a kid reading Marvel comics, so this announcement didn’t do anything for me (but I’m certainly happy for people that are excited about it)

The third big Disney + announcement however, Moon Knight, is awesome news!

RPG Superstar 2015 Top 8

Off Topic, Spider-Man:
Tom Holland is great and he will continue to be great even if he is out of the MCU. My issue is how because the highups at the studios are such Spider-Man fanboys, they make him spotlight hog. And it shouldn't be that way--especially since indeed he's got his own stories to tell. As it is I recognize my opinions are extraordinarily fringe and will have zero weight on what happens, whereas and the vast majority of fans no doubt will have a lot of potential influence on what happens in that respect. I'm already down, there's no need to kick me.

Now, respectfully, there is a separate thread about the Spider-Man situation, I beg of y'all, speaking as thread starter who was trying to post a thread sticking to things I was happy about for once in the MCU, to keep further concerns about that to that other thread.

As for the two new Disney+ shows I am excited about, I want to add that I think it's awesome there are promises there will be ties with the films. I know it's really hard to do that simply because of differences in film schedules versus movie scheduling. But as these are limited series they have a lot of planning time for and can influence their production schedules (as opposed to broadcast TV and broadcast network shenanigans), hopefully they can make this work in a meaningful enough way. And hopefully even have actors cross over which is harder to manage with both schedules and paychecks.

For She-Hulk, I specifically wonder if Mark Ruffalo will appear so that her origin is the same (she is his cousin, she gets his blood transfusion). Maybe it will take place in the 5 year post-snap period while Bruce has managed to just get into the Professor Hulk mode. Maybe he thinks since he has tamed Hulk the transfusion is less dangerous. Or that he can help her control the Hulk if it manifests.... although I always liked that she innately could combine herself and her Hulk side much more closely (a recent comicbook storyline aside).

I agree with DQ about having She-Hulk being able to control the rage and thus the gamma power much better than Bruce ever could.

I also think they should draw from Sensational rather than some other She-Hulk comic.

I keep seeing reference to the spider man thing but from what I understand it was worked out.

Also She-hulk!!!

Vid,

It's not been resolved that I'm aware of...yet. Mostly because there's rumor that Disney didn't want Feige distracted by doing Spider-man as well as other Marvel projects. Which might be true...but it still sucks.

And yes, She-hulk!

I think they are totally setting up a Young Avengers movie, what with aging up Cassie Lang, introducing Kate Bishop, and now creating a Ms Marvel Show.

I saw a rumor before the Spider-man split that Spiderman 3 would actually have She-Hulk defending Parker in court from the fall out of Far from home. That rumors make a hell of a lot more sense in the context of She Hulk having an upcoming movie.

Well I dunno about movie but I would like to see a Young Avengers as well.

I just also want Ms America dammit!! I love America Chavez!

I was always under the impression -- and I could be completely wrong -- that the gamma-powered manifestations represented the repressed side of the main personality. Ruffalo's MCU Hulk doesn't seem to really dwell on that, but comics Hulk represented the repressed rage from Banner's horrific childhood abuse. Walters was reserved and coolly-professional, even a bit of a control freak, so Shulkie manifested as an emotionally-open and passionate free-spirit.

I'm hoping the fourth-wall breaking makes it in somehow.

All I care about is that she doesn't end up with Jason Aaron's Hulk...because while it's okay for now, it's still not QUITE She-Hulk for me.

Tatiana Maslany needs to work on that stubble...

I don't get that Freehold, but I AM VERY happy that Tatiana (a very talented actress) will be playing one of my favorite super heroes.

I don't get it either.

But here's a brand new BossLogic pic of a possible look at Tatiana playing Walters and Shulkie. (♡‿♡)

I am on mobile. Clicking on the Tatiana link loads her IMDB, which results in huge movie, waiting to be played, of a man with several days of beard growth, but the page says it is Tatiana. It would probably look different on a desktop.

Freehold,

Try this I think it might help...

I know. It was a joke. None got it. Like most of my jokes.

But you did see the picture I posted, right Freehold?

(I fail my humor rolls all the time)

So, I guess the Tatiana rumors are true. This should be kinda fun!

Liberty's Edge

She-Hulk teaser trailer.

Short but sweet. But I heard they were going to make this like a sitcom. Does'nt look like one. I still think it looks great.

Pretty sure that's a fake/fan-made trailer. Don't believe they've started shooting She Hulk yet. Last I saw was March 2020 for that.

Yeah they've not started shooting yet, Joel. They have, however, started some shooting for Hawkeye and Ms Marvel.

If only She Hulk had the multiple personalities her more infamous cousin had in the comics. I hear Ms Maslany is pretty good at playing multiple characters at once

Ok, glad to get that out of my system. Carry on.

Yeah I think ONE unnstoppable Rage monster with personality issues is enough for most of us...

Don't make Me angry.

Great shout out to the original show.

They are going to keep the full look hidden until air day aren't they.

Looking forward to it.

Ms. Marvel also looking pretty good and Moonknight that is going to be dark I think

Moon Knight was always dark, Grey. I mean he's kind of crazy Batman with a god complex. Though according to the synopsis, there will be more focus on the Gods of Egypt from the past into the present than just street level fighting.

I am intrigued by the fact Kamala doesn't seem to do size alteration...but we'll see.

While I admit I wish had seen more of Jen in She-Hulk mode, we did see Smart Hulk. So there's that.

Ooh, this might move it from 'no interest at all' to must see TV for me! Then again, it's probably not a great sign for fans of Moon Knight that I, very much not a fan of Moon Knight, am intrigued, since they are fans of the character as written, who has never really done much for me...

Quote:

Given how terrible / uncanny valley the CGI for 'embiggining' various body parts might be, an energy-field replica / overlay of her normal sized limbs might be the best option, really.

My first intro to Moon Knight was West Coast Avengers, he was actually possessed by his God back then so that's the version of the character I'm used to. I know he went sort of "Batman but Crazy" later but I never read that version of him.

Grey,

He still has some of that element currently even while doing the street level/protector of the night thing in his current series. Which I hope they draw from too.

Set,

With regard to Kamala's power change...Eh. I mean I get it. Not sure I want it as much...but then again it might mean they ret-con her powers so she's not Inhuman. Maybe. I dunno.

I do think if you watch the show (based on the trailers) you get some that plus the other stuff that's been mentioned.

It amuses me that over on the Young Justice cartoon, they sort of rebooted a character, Tye Longshadow, off an old Superfriends stereotypical character 'Apache Chief' from being a 'grows into a giant' character to creating a giant person shaped energy field around himself, with himself hovering in the middle of it, while the giant force-construct basically did the 'giant person' stuff for him.

And now Kamala is getting the same treatment. Giant energy exoskeletons is the new size-changing? :)

Liberty's Edge RPG Superstar 2008 Top 32, 2011 Top 16

Remember, Ms Marvel show will be about her learning and developing her powers. From the 15 seconds or so of footage of her using powers, it's pretty hard to know how they'll end up.

Joel,

Maybe but the fact is, the few seconds we got, doesn't show her doing any of her size changing and/or size alteration on body parts.

Set,

Not sure for me it's amusing...but as long as they keep the core of Kamala's character intact, I'm...hopeful.

I think for Ms Marvel arm size changes, they should use practical effects.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

They could Mark, but I dunno if they do that along with giving her some energy based powers makes that much sense. We'll see.
