In the gear list on page 288 (table 6-9), the Basic Crafter's Book is listed as 1sp. The description says
Basic Crafter’s Book: This book contains the formulas (page 293) for Crafting the common items in this chapter.
.
On page 293, in table 6-13, the cost of a single level 0 common formula is listed as 5sp, with a footnote that says
Formulas for all 0-level common items from this chapter can be purchased collectively in a basic crafter’s book.
I'm having trouble reconciling these two ... is there an errata? Or am I missing something?

Probably just future-proofing.
There might be more common level 0 items in the future. Since the footnote says the crafter's book only contains the formula's for the items in the CRB, you would need to buy the formulas for any level 0 items that are released in a later rule book seperately.
There's lots of future-proofing in the book. Like the level 20 caster feats to get another 10th level saying you need to have the class feature that grants you a 10th level slot. There is currently no way to have access to this feat without having this class feature. But there might be something like that in the future.

I think what the OP is asking is why does a Basic Crafter's book cost 1 sp if it's full of every level 0 common recipe from the CRB which cost 5sp EACH for a copy?
I imagine that this is similar to spellbooks in P1 where NO ONE pays for common cantrips since all wizards learn all common cantrips after graduation to level 1.

Much like the oopsie with Sorcerer Resolve ability, I feel that this is an error somehow.
1sp seems incredibly too low for *all* the common recipes in the Equipment chapter.
Although if level 0 common recipes are 5sp a piece that puts the book in high gold piece territory.
Just did a count. There are over 150 common level 0 items in the equipment chapter (weapons, armor, shield, gear). At 5sp per recipe that book should legitimately cost 75gp. 50gp with a bulk discount. ;-)
Something's off somewhere.

I Suspect its completely intended. I assume the rules were created for the higher level stuff, but, never intended for the low level common items to follow those rules. Almost like the items are so common they are just cheaper to know. Or, that having the craft skill makes knowing how to create the item trivial.
For example, if I know how to install a engine in a car, it would be laughable to say I need training on how to change the oil, even if I have never done it before. They probably just created the rules and then went, wait, but then they have to pay a excessive amount for something that they could probably easily figure out on their own. Lets make a cheap crafters book. Crafting for dummies 101.
I admit I would have preferred they said you just need trained in a specific crafting skill to craft any 0 level item of that skill.

It might be future proofing that if an uncommon 0-level item were to become 'available' for someone, buying that formula might have that price.
But admittedly, it certainly should alarm someone, in general, if a collection of all items costs less than any one item in the collection.

Is a Level 3 item from that section (Infiltrator Thieve's Tools, in this case) considered "common"?
Trying to navigate the crafting rules after just completing my first Society scenario. Initially I thought I had to buy a Formula Book, but now I'm inclined to think that's more akin to a spellbook for Alchemists.
So my next question is whether I have to buy the Level 3 Formula for the Tools, or just the Basic Crafting Book, or both.

Alchemical Wonder |

Common simply means without the Uncommon, Rare, or Unique traits. That would include both the Adventuring Gear table, but not the Uncommon Adventuring Gear table, and Alchemical Gear table. And all armor, shields, weapons that aren’t in the uncommon tables, the Magical Gear table and the Barding table.

Again, I'm presuming that the design assumption is meant to be like wizards cantrips in P1. If every craftsman has knowledge of all recipes of most types, then they are without value. It doesn't make sense that every craftsman knows the schematics for every device for every trade, so maybe the formulas should be for only 1 craft skill per book?

As soon as they publish a common item outside of the CRB, you will have a formula that costs that 5 sp figure from table 6-13 on page 293 of the CRB.
Otherwise, you would only buy such a formula if for some reason you don't have and can't get a Basic Crafter's Book but you can buy a single formula that you want to use to make something.

Super late, sorry, but in case anyone else has this problem: The basic crafter's book only contains the common level 0 formulas [EDIT: of the Equipment chapter]. There is no book for higher level formulas. The blank formula book is not needed, it's just handy to have all your formulas in one place (that' how I understand it).

Aratorin |

The Basic Crafter's Book also only gives you the Formulas for Common Items in that chapter. Not the entire book.
It also doesn't say anything about Level. The Basic Crafter's Book has the Formula for a Superior Lock, which is Level 17, as well as a Lesser Elixir of Life, which is Level 1(pg. 292, in the same Chapter).

Aratorin |

See page 293, Table 6-13. It only contains level 0 formulas.
I disagree. That's just helpful text explaining how to get Level 0 Formulas cheaply so you don't waste money.
It does nothing to change the Rules Text of the Basic Crafter's Book.
Basic Crafter’s Book: This book contains the formulas (page 293) for Crafting the common items in this chapter.
Even if you read the 293 text as Rules text, it doesn't say that the Basic Crafter's Book only contains Level 0 Formulas, it simply says that you can get all the Level 0 Formulas in a Basic Crafter's Book, so it still doesn't contradict the Rules of the Basic Crafter's Book itself.
