6th level Medium spells.

I'm currently creating a High level medium character and noticed that there are 3 spells listed as being 6th level medium spells. Which is an issue since Mediums only get up to 4th level spells known from the medium spell list.

the spells in question are

Emblem of Greed
Shadow Transmutation
Baleful SHadow transmutation

Normally I would think this is just an issue with d20FPSRDs data entry, but I checked my personal copy of Arcane Anthology and Emblem of Greed explicitly lists Medium 6. I am unsure about the other two since I don't own blood of shadows.

So i'm pretty confused on how this works exactly, I know medium can get up to 6th level spells from spirits but those are pulled form different lists, so how exactly do these 3 spell play out?

Channel the Archmage or the Hierophant- the lesser arcana says:

Quote:
Instead of your normal spells per day for your medium level, you use the spells per day from Table 1–4: Mesmerist.

It goes on to say that you can use those slots for spells from the wizard/sorc or cleric/oracle lists, but it doesn't specify that you must use those slots on those kinds of spells.

The 6th level Medium spells are definitely uncorrected errors in the source material, as you never get 6th level Medium spells known by default. I find it difficult to believe that they would deliberately create Medium spells that you could access only by gaining them on Pages of Spell Knowledge and channeling specific spirits.

The mistake might simply be that the "get new temporary spells known" line in archmage and hierophant abilities should also allow you to choose Medium spells, not just wizard or cleric spells.

Because yes, otherwise you'd never get to know these spells.

I've always assumed it was an error by the author thinking Mediums had 6th level casting and wasn't caught by the developer.

I think the specific mistake was in assuming that when the medium gets converted to mesmerist casting, it also gains "spells known" as a mesmerist... which honestly isn't a bad house rule.

But there are no 5th level Medium spells, so I am not sure what would be done if you got a slot of that sort.

I can see two reasonable solutions to the problem of 6th level Medium spells:

1) Set them to Medium 4 instead of Medium 6. You would then gain access to them at 13th level (vice 11th level for a wizard).

2) Delete them from the Medium spell list entirely. You can still access all of these spells by picking them as 6th level spells for the Archmage spirit.

Archmage lets you add spells from the sorc/wiz list, Hierophant from the Cleric/Oracle one. So you could just do that. It makes those spirits more attractive, but making something that's not the champion more attractive is good IMO.

Archive of Nethys is showing Subjective Reality as a 5th level Medium spell.

Of all the spells listed, I think Subjective Reality is the only problem. The other three are also Wizard spells of the same level. But Subjective Reality is a 5th level Mesmerist/Medium but 6th level Bard/Psychic and 7th Wizard spell.

They done goofed.

Subjective Reality could only be saved by making it a 4th level Medium spell as well. It is actually a more powerful spell than the 6th level Medium spells, based on its spell levels for other classes. Crossing it off the Medium spell list would require you to use a supreme spirit power to access it, at which point it hardly matters which spell list it is on.
