Help with character alignment?

Advice

So i made 2 characters that im playing in basically an evil campaign, 1 is a chaotic evil and is basically the one that likes to torture people that she captures and the other is her younger sister who im trying to figure out what alignment they would fall under. she's sorta the "innocent" one of the two who cares for her sister a lot (not in a sexual way) and does basically whatever her sister tells her to do, to an extent, and if her sister is threatened she'll get mad and try to protect her. im having trouble telling whether this would be Neutral good or Neutral evil but im assuming Neutral evil because she's helping an evil person
Edit: sorry i saw i posted it multiple times but the site wont load so i clicked the button multiple times. also sorry i posted this in the wrong place

I will say that she is true neutral or legal evil

Neutral because she doesn't care for nothing except for the sister
Legal evil or legal neutral, most of the legal have a weakness like don't kill women's, or children, or a dog etc in this case it to protect her sister and help her in any way she can
Not all the people who help evil character are evil she may help her because an oath to they dead mother to always help each other, or to try to help her to find a way to leave the way she is going and redemptions of her actions

2 people marked this as a favorite.

To what extent? It is relevant.

If, for example, her sister tells her to kill an innocent, and she wouldn't think twice, she would definitely be Evil, most likely Neutral Evil. Even if she'd be hesitand to do such gruesome things, but she remains aware that what she does is helping an evil person do terrible things, she'd still be Evil. Even Evil Has Loved Ones, so just the fact that she is caring and protective of her sister wouldn't be an excuse for the things she does. This seems like the most likely case, basing on your description.

If she won't do obviously evil things for her sisters, but she will still protect her from whatever comes, She may be True Neutral. It's kind of detached stance, "I won't stop you, but I won't help you".

If she tries to stop her sister from doing evil things and get her on the road to redemption, she may be Neutral Good. That would however require her to be able oppose her sister to protect those that the sister may want to hurt. It's a stance "I won't let others hurt you, but I won't let you hurt others either."

Loving, protecting, and trusting your sister is not Evil regardless. From the information you have given, she might be Lawful Good! There are lots of nuances of roleplaying to uncover here.

Does the innocent sister know her evil sister is torturing people? Maybe the evil sister is sheltering her from the truth somehow. If the innocent sister does know, then maybe the story is about innocent sister trying to redeem her evil sister.

Or maybe both sisters are evil through-and-through, just that one of them wears leather straps and the other wears satin ribbons, but whether their victims are strangled on a hemp rope or a silk one, they are still suffering horrible deaths.

Loving is generally Good, especially if you love the person and not the things she does. Trusting is neither inherently Good or Evil, but it may be pretty naive. But protecting, knowing that the protected person is Evil, is most often Evil, unless you have plans of redeeming that person.

Characters that lack strong convictions, go with the flow, and are generally most concerned with the people they are already close to are usually going to be Neutral. Whether she's TN or NE I'd decide based on how much she participates in the actual evil acts - if she actively avoids doing the horrible things her sister does and just tries to support her in other ways I'd call her Neutral, if she engages and just doesn't enjoy it as much as her sister does then that dismissive cruelty would pin her as Neutral Evil.

One thing I can say with absolute certainty is that she is not Good, though she may become Good over the course of the narrative. A Good character would not condone or accept the things her sister is doing, and she'd be working to change her sister's behavior if not simply leave.

Granted, if the CE sister is actively disguising her actions so that the innocent one doesn't actually know what's being done then there is room for her being Neutral Good.

Update for the couple people who asked more about the younger sister, she does know about her sisters evil acts and personality but doesnt partake in it and generally disproves but ignores it because she loves her sister. she would kill for her sister if she was asked but only if the person her sister asked to kill wasn't an innocent bystander just going through their daily life.

Well she is chaotic neutral whit the family tied drawback
