Need assistance choosing a character class

Advice

Hey so I was playing with a group as a UCmonk putting out triple digit damage a round at level 7. I then left and am now able to rejoin the group. The group is composed of
GreatSword Paladin, Archer Slayer, Ice Witch, Grappler Brawler, Conjuration Wizard, and I'm having issues figuring out what to play. I usually play front liners so the more I look for something the harder it is to nail down. Any suggestions?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Would you consider playing a character who buffs the others in addition to being on the front line? A freebooter ranger can pull that off.

Or you might play a sneak of some sort. I'm not sure whether your slayer fills that role.

The party might also need someone who's invested a bit of effort into healing conditions. That could combine with buffing (evangelist cleric) or with sneaking (inquisitor) or with front line fighting (warpriest or oracle).

Go rogue lv 1, swashbuckler lv 3/ gunslinger lv 3 named Jack Sparrow
Or a lv 7 warpriest of cayden

Druid or cleric would be my choice. If you wanted to do a front line fighter build a Druid that used wild shape primarily. I would suggest magus as well.

Silver Crusade

If you want to make a combat character and fill in what the group needs. Playing a cleric, or oracle using a reach weapon. Cleric is easy to do if you want something nonstandard. Shelyn bladed brush builds are extremely good at filling this role. Diping two levels in monk martial artist gives you Wis mod to AC, evasion, and two bonus feat’s. The other option of going oracle mystery war. If a little straight forward.

Example Cleric of Shelyn 20 point buy.
Human
Str 8
Dex 14 +2 Human = 16 (All level points here)
Con 12
Int 10
Wis 16
Cha 14
Leveling: Cleric for the first 3 levels then monk for 2 levels. Then cleric for all other levels.
Feat’s:
H: Weapon Finesses
1: Extra Channel
3: Weapon Focus: Glaive
Monk 1: Dodge
5: Bladed Brush (Glaive becomes a finesses weapon for you. And you can short haft it as a move action.)
Monk 2: Combat Reflexes
7: Phalanx Formation (Ally dose not provide soft cover)
9: Slashing Grace

Thanks everybody I think I'm gonna do an Melee/support Oracle because I'll get full spell levels and can moderately stand up in combat.

@OP: Consider a melee/support Evangelist Cleric instead. An Evangelist is the love child of a Bard and a Cleric, and has the best qualities of each. Your team lacks both a bard and a full divine caster. An Evangelist gets full bardic ability, as a bard of the same level, and is also a full caster cleric. Evangelist Cleric is the best buffing build in the game. Here's a link to more information. Spell selection is vastly better than for Oracle. Melee ability can be considerably stronger. It's even possible to build a highly effective Evangelist PC with only 1 attribute point, which allows for massive customization when you have 20 points to work with. I.e. That's 19 attribute points free to spend on being good at melee combat, if that's your wish.

P.s. Any PC who has the Armor Expert trait (-1 to ACP) can wear Mithril Breastplate (-3 to ACP) medium armor (normal ACP is 4) with no penalty, despite lacking proficiency in medium armor. This approach effectively increases your AC by +2 and your Move by +10 feet, at the cost of a trait and some gold. Very handy if you ever expect to be attacked or want to move fast.

This group would love Inspire Courage to death. Evangelist Cleric is probably the best choice (as boring and predictable as that suggestion has become over the years). If you'd rather play an Oracle then you can use the Ocean's Echo archetype to get Inspire.
