So I'll be running a short three-night campaign for some of my friends, and since it is going to be so short, I was thinking of giving them some single use magic weapons like javelins of Lightning and such to use instead, as they'd never spend 1500 gold on a 5d6 lightning bolt.
My real question here is what else is there in terms of items that are like this, items that are cool in concept but have a large cost and/ or arn't overly used?
The party will be level seven across the whole thing, in terms of their power and there isn't a full caster.

Potions, wands with only one or two charges left, and scrolls are all good consumable magic items to pepper into loot tables for short games.
I also quite like the elemental gems, which are a fairly low level item, and let the party quickly add extra firepower into a tough fight. Having an extra pool of hit points and actions in combat can swiftly swing the course of battle.

Well, a wand of maximized magic missile with only 5 charges left would always be a fun inclusion.

Alternatively, items with powers usable a very limited number of times per day fills a similar niche if the action is dense.
The Crown of Blasting is an example.
