Is there a Favored Soul equivalent in Pathfinder?

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Hey, I'm just curious. D&D 3.5 had a class called Favored Soul which was essentially just a Sorcerer, but with Cleric spells instead of Mage spells.

Is there anything like that in Pathfinder?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

So, you just want someone who can cast spells without preparing ahead of time like the Sorcerer, and with the Cleric spell listing?
Sounds like an Oracle.

Indeed it does. I'd never really taken a close look at the class before. Thanks!

The classes in the Miniatures book were a pretty low powered bunch, if I recall correctly (and being too lazy to go look it up). My favorite was the Healer, though it would be pretty useless in combat except as a Band-Aid for the party.

Yeah, you're looking for Oracle. Inquisitor is another spontaneous divine casting, though not a full caster. Arcanist casts like Spirit Shaman, albeit with the wizard/sorcerer list instead of druid.

Warmage was good as an NPC class. No need to work out a spells known/prepared and deal with including a spellbook as loot.

I used it as a NPC healer allowing it to spontaneously cast from the spell list and it was hardly ever a problem. (They appreciated the heal spell on the dracolich.) You could do a lot better just picking the spell list on a favored soul instead.

It was a good NPC class, for sure. I don't really think any of the four classes in the book are PC-worthy. Of course, they weren't really designed for regular tabletop play but as boosters for the miniatures game.
