Beginner Box Sanctioning?

Starfinder Society

Does anyone know if they've announced whether or not the adventure in the Beginner Box will be sanctioned for Society Play? If so, is it going to be sanctioned in perpetuity the way that, say, Skitter Shot is? I wasn't around for the PF Beginner Box, so I'm not sure how it worked there. I'm debating buying the box, because I don't really need/want the toys, but if the adventure will be sanctioned, it may be worth it to go ahead and pre-order.

They have not yet announced sanctioning for the beginner box, sadly.

I am hoping for Beginer Box leading to Starfinder Academy!

Hmm

Is that a reference to something that PF did?

I didn't play PFS, so I have no frame of reference for the beginner box there. I'm trying to figure out if it's worth buying, for me.

It is a reference to something PF did. Pathfinder Academy - the Organized Play learning program for children - is based off the Pathfinder beginner box.

As someone who has GMed for kids in Starfinder, I'd love to have more things for them!

Hmm

Seconded on this, Starfinder Academy would be awesome to have.

Can someone explain to me if/how sanctioning worked for the PF beginner box? I tried downloading all the free docs I could related to it, and I'm not seeing anything like Chronicle sheets for credit.

I know I can't expect that the SF box will have identical sanctioning, but really, I'm at a point where I have more than enough unopened toys in boxes sitting on shelves, so I can't justify spending $35 on something I won't actually use.

Awesome things like Starfinder Academy would only happen if the organized play team had extra time on their hands which we all know they don't.

Pragmatically speaking, we've been waiting for a promised new SFS RSP boon for 5 months in response to the 2 new PFS RSP boons dropping at Gencon (bringing their total to 6). Just one boon. Not a set of boons so players have a choice, certainly not 6 boons to put SFS on even footing with PFS. Just one.

And the organized play team are some of the most dedicated, hard working people around. They're keeping up with the 2 scenarios per month, and they're mostly staying ahead of the monthly Adventure Path releases and new source book every few months, but they're clearly at capacity so extra bits of awesome get left on the backburner.

So, lets not be pressuring them with more work - at least until they're caught up.

On a semi-related note, expect a whole bunch of SFS-related boons to start going out in the coming weeks. I know a few of them have already snuck out into the public view (like the new Online "Mega Region" boon). That being said, I tend to do boons in large batches, so there's probably a whole bunch more coming... :)

If it turns out that the included adventure is sanctioned for play and the $35 cover price is a problem, just buy the pdf version and print the adventure. Its not listed as an option yet because the physical product is still preorder, but there is every reason to think it will be released on pdf just like the Pathfinder Beginner Box and roughly at the same price point ($10). Really the only difference between the pdf and the physical product is the "toys" (as you called them) and having the printed material on slick professional paper...oh and a neat storage box.

I didn't sneak it into public view... I went through the front door and cleared it with you first!

Some insight -

RSP launches each year on Feb 1. This is out of cycle both seasonally and calendar, but is the date we use because that is when we first put the program into public domain. The two boons that dropped at Gen Con were allocated last Feb as alternate boons that a RVC could utilize in their area. That they dropped for you at Gen Con was not a factor of the program, just timing.

When we launched SFS, we added a RSP component for that campaign. The issue is that RSP boons come from prior convention boons and we don't have the breadth of catalog for SFS as we do for PFS. There also isn't the amount of additional resources out of which to write new boons and we don't want to hold back material that would otherwise be legal for play just to produce boons.

Good news is that we have a new package ready to launch Feb 2019 that includes multiple SFS and PFS and GM boons for both programs. At this time, there isn't an ACG component, as we are revising the program prior to the new core set drop in May.

Thanks Tonya. It'd be great to get it out a bit early to RVCs so there's time for distribution and printing - especially if we're expected to do the changeover Feb 1st.

We, like many groups, host our regular weekly games on Fridays which lands on Feb 1 this year.

Any thoughts on a timeframe for a possible sanctioning for the Beginner's Box?
Yes, it is convention season. I know, I keep asking these questions. Thanks for your hard work!

Nothing to announce at this time.

Just wanted to say that the Beginner's Box hit my game store the other day and of course I couldn't resist even though I own the Core Book and lots of other SF goodies.

I like what I see in the box. Good quality stuff, and lots of it.
