Bleed condition and magical sleep

Rules Questions

Grand Lodge

We have a witch in my party that uses the slumber hex and my character has the rogue bleeding attack. We are having a debate on how the 2 interact.

My question is if I get a sneak attack in that causes the npc to gain the bleed condition then a few rounds later the witch puts the npc to sleep with slumber, would the sleeping npc wake up its next turn after taking the bleed damage.

I think the confusion stems is that there is damage happening and the slumber hex states:

"This hex ends immediately if the creature takes damage."

My take is that this means that the hex ends when taking damage from a new attack, not from a condition.

Thanks

Technically, by RAW, the hex will be broken when they take damage (from any source or reason, implied).

That said I don't think your ruling is unreasonable but it will leave the door open to further issues. For example, ongoing damage from Acid Arrow. That's neither a new attack nor a condition. You'll need further clarification. What if the condition is described as painful or burning? Might be better off homebrewing a further ability/feat etc. much as choosing between lethal or non-lethal, to make it sleep breaking or not (via pain or whatever) or just say that any damage will in fact break the sleep as per RAW.

damage is damage, doesnt matter if its from a condition or not. the enemy wakes up on the next turn.

In the meantime, they are prone and don't get their dex to AC, so your sneak attacks get additional plusses to hit. Or you could Coup de Grâce.

They take damage they wake up. But if you time it right, that's still a lot of time for a rogue to do what they do best.
