Hey gang, I was going to post this request for ideas here, but it got kind of long, so I figured I'd throw it out into the wild to see who has ideas. I'd love this thread's input, though.

Ooo… the French men’s 4x100 relay team just got DQ’d when pole vaulter Anthony Ammirati messed up the baton pass. The anchor runner was 10 meters past the handoff zone before he realized that wasn’t the baton.
Laughed so loud the cat ran out of the room.

Good, that means you will surely follow its great advices diligently and not listen to the naysayers and other grumps. Yes, that includes particularly the lamp.
You can't trust the lamp. It whispers bad things to the cat.

I'm afraid to turn it off now. LOL

Fantasy Monster: Bonsai treant
A little tree familiar.
I have a skull-widening migraine and may have overlooked it, but what benefit does it offer its master?

Termites.
(sorry about your skull)

It doesn't. Only regular familiars grant the master bonus. Improved Familiars in general give the master's benefit of having a PC-following NPC (or semi-PC, depending on the group arrangements) with abilities of its own (e.g. having an imp familiar, you have a cunning bastard of your own that can fly around unseen).
Bonsai treant has a daily goodberry*, sensing water, and its behavior reflects the mood of the surrounding.

I love this! That scene in "Nosferatu" (and later duplicated in Coppola's "Dracula") is one of the greatest moments in horror cinema.

Cruel guardians of the dead forests.
I love it. I might drop the "d" and call it simply a "Dryacula" if I use it in a game, simply for a personal vocal aesthetic.
I look forward to every Sunday afternoon when a new beastie drops. Thanks for all the work you put into creating these wonderful creatures.

I thought of this, but then it might not be obvious from that it is supposed to be an undead dryad, rather than weird pronunciation of Dracula.

Welp, last session the party managed to get themselves trapped between two powerful groups of enemies, with the additional impediments of a wall of force in one direction, a field of black tentacles in the other, and a series of iron doors between them and the exit that can only be opened by pretending to be a lawful evil outsider with Use Magic Device or a Dispel Magic against CL 20--oh, and did I mention that it's a dimensionally locked zone so they can't teleport away? One party member is inside a different ring of force wall with two enemies and the animal companion is poisoned down to 1 Con... the list of pwnedness goes on and on.
As I said when I checked in to see if everyone was available for tonight's game: I've been looking at new campaigns...
Yeesh.

I'm getting some GM burnout over the whole situation. It's not like I go out of my way to kill parties, really. I try everything to keep them alive. And they find new ways to tactically shaft themselves. They're like the hapless Sun Tzus of TTRPGs--geniuses at the Art of Self Pwnage.

*debeverages*
*pours rest of beverage out in memory of the party, who did not survive*
For anyone interested, completely enclosing your strongest melee fighter inside a mime-style cube of force with a couple of the bad guys is a very bad tactical decision when there are significantly more than two bad guys outside the cube of force AND YOU DIE BEFORE DISPELLING IT AND FREEING HIM.
The party's primary melee guy spent the entire fight trapped in an invisible box of force, cast by his own arcanist.
I need more faces and more palms.
Well, on to whatever is next.
Honestly, though, I'm feeling pretty burned out. Not really looking forward to gaming any more. Bleh. Gotta find some way to get my groove back. Dammit.

It sounds like the party didn't inspire very much in you, aside from humorous anecdotes (which I loved). I was completely hollowed out after GMing since 1985 but getting to be a player, even if it's only once every two or three months, has made a big difference in keeping my love of the game alive.

Yeah, they definitely didn't know what was coming. I do think they fell victim to Shiny New Toy syndrome--wanting to use new abilities ASAP, regardless of the situation. And I've noticed this particular group isn't great about reacting when s+!~ goes pear-shaped. We did some post mortem talk last night and they started to see where the choices they'd made went awry.
Ah well. We'll see what everyone wants to do next.

Welp, the group has decided to try Pathfinder 2.0 with one of the other guys GMing. I have... feelings... about 2.0. However, as I told my wife this weekend in a different context, I'm trying hard to be more upbeat and supportive, so I will say nothing more than that I have... feelings.
EDIT: I should add that when I said "I'm trying to be more upbeat and supportive" my wife laughed. Hard. For, like, fifteen minutes.
