Howdy. So am curious about people's thoughts and consideration on this weapon. It, and all its higher level versions are all single shot, reload, and low range increment. and it is really quite expensive.
The damage is never very much, and the increments are always pretty low. It uses Shells, (and somehow does fire damage).
The description, the shells, and the stats make me feel like this weapon was suppose to have an aoe associated, like a scatter gun. Burst maybe is the term.
So.. What are people's thoughts on this weapon? Does it have a use.. what sort of use are these? I guess it isn't the worst hide out, but it sure feels off.
It came up in another thread but currently the only idea I had would be Energetic Fusion and a mechanic's over charge weapon. Though I didn't do the math for the battery- usage ratio. basically would just be a hold old blast.
Honestly if this had Burst/scatter this would be a pretty niche but neat weapon.

I believe its niche is being an energy weapon that uses shells rather than batteries.
It's also on the cheaper side, for its level.
Is that a good selling point ? Debatable.
Damage seems on par with other fire small arms. Range is really short, obviously.
Don't think it's "supposed" to be aoe, as the gulchgun isn't either.
This very much has the flavor of a weapon of the jury-rigged, tinker made category, rather than a more legitimate, mass produced one. For when you want to get your mad max on.

Nyerkh |

Well, we have the flame pistols for aoe flame small arms. Only the heaviest of flame throwers are blast.
Petrol is a godawful, nonsensical ammunition, admittedly.
Honestly, more special ammo for shotguns if not other projectile weapons (dragonbreath or otherwise, like we had in PF) could have been nice. But I expect it'd be tougher to balance in Starfinder, and probably too big of an advantage for the category.

I mean there are already two types of shells at least.
Standard and explosive.
Explosive giving half fire damage and aknock down crit effect.Sooo kind of nothing for this weapon, except for the crit effect,
unless you also use explosive shells. Burn and knockdown. Though it is more of a flavor choice.

such a shame. it it just had a cone effect up to its first increment (like that one weapon property.. what was it..burst? I forget atm) it would have a solid and really uniquely cool niche.
It would've been a cool "quick sheath fire drop" sorta tool.
Feel free to look up rules online. archives of nethys

That is true, I do use that website. Though I would note, unlike their pathfinder side, their starfinder side has a ton of errors and typos lately. Which is a shame.
But mostly, its rather difficult to keep thoughts going and research while on a mobile phone in transit. Not exactly easy tab or looking around.
I suppose I could just avoid reading and talking on forums during transit though.

Zwordsman: Maybe the answer is to skip the transit part? I feel like the only way to make Genetic Drift happy is if he’s 100% sure that all your attention is on Starfinder and this thread. Honestly, it’s pretty ridiculous that you think you can just browse a forum and ask a question in your spare time.
Dracomicron: That’s your answer for everything.
