Monk archetype

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Is there any monk's archetype use intelligence instead of Wis?

I don't remember seeing one, but that would be cool to have. Arguably you could sort of kitbash one together by being an Elf or Half-Elf and taking the Sohei archetype, which eventually gives you Weapon Training and lets you flurry with any weapon in a weapon group for which you have Weapon Training, and also take the whole Elven Battle Style feat chain and its prerequisites, although that's a pretty burdensome load of feats and will take quite a while to come online(*) while imposing an opportunity cost on your ability to do other stuff.

(*)And you won't get a break on the BAB requirement, thus dragging it out even more since Sohei is not Unchained Monk compatible and is thus 3/4 BAB.

Closest thing I can think of is a Magus archetype that happens to give you a lot of monk features.

The Esoteric, from Occult Adventures.

For some reason, Paizo seemingly doesn't like non-spellcasters with a strong focus on intelligence.
Well, it does kinda make sence that due to the huge caster/martial disparity, every intelligent person (in-universe) would strive to become a caster rather than a martial...

It does, however, prevent every single int caster from taking a level of Int-Monk to gain their primary casting stat to their AC and CMD.

Of course, it just means you play as a Charisma caster and take a level of Scaled Fist instead.

Though remember that there are few to no cha based prep casters and cha casters are weaker than prep casters.

True, well except for the Seducer Witch and the Fey Speaker Druid.

Otherwise, Scaled Fist is an insane dip for a ton of classes. Its pretty easy to get Charisma as a bonus to pretty much everything.

That would be the easiest thing to fix, Iroran Paladin, Warrior Poet, and probably other archetypes already have that "1 point per level/to a maximum of level" limitation.

Also, dipping out of full casters makes them only weaker almost every time*, and the 6/9 casters can wear armor.

*) Which means it'd not lead to greater strength for full casters, but to greater variance. Not a bad thing, in my opinion! Somehow, I don't think Int-Monk 1/Witch 4/Stargazer X with Hex Strike would be overpowered...

Due to the total lack of int-based martial classes, such a Monk archetype would not be anywhere near as dip freindly as Scaled Fist. Magus wouldn't profit (Flurry doesn't work with Spell Combat), so we'd be talking about Alchemist, Investigator, and Occultist.
