Stealth and Attack

Rules Questions

Hello, sorry if it have been asked many times.

I'm new to Pathfinder, and i've seen that in the rules it does not say if you have to add a +2 to the attack when you attack after taking a stealth check. Do you have any bonuses like invisibility?

Is it possible to attack and hide again?

Thank you.

Quote:
When you start your turn using Stealth, you can leave cover or concealment and remain unobserved as long as you succeed at a Stealth check and end your turn in cover or concealment. Your Stealth immediately ends after you make an attack roll, whether or not the attack is successful (except when sniping as noted below).

'Unobserved' isn't a condition that is properly defined, but generally it's not considered equivalent to invisible, rather it's equivalent to total concealment. That is, you cannot be targeted with attacks, and no attacks of opportunity against you, but no bonus to the attack roll.

Having said that, I have a house rule that if the opponent is completely unaware about your presence, and you attack him from Stealth, they count as flat-footed against your first attack, even if they otherwise performed any actions in combat. However, that only works if your taget is completely unaware; if you hide again, they know you're still somewhere around, they just don't know where exactly, and they are not flat-footed against you.

After your attack, the opponent is aware of you, and you count as observed. That means that you cannot use Stealth immediately. However you can use Bluff to create a diversion:

Quote:
You can use Bluff to allow you to use Stealth. A successful Bluff check can give you the momentary diversion you need to attempt a Stealth check while people are aware of you.

Remember that after you succesfully use Bluff, you still have to move to a place that grants you concealment or cover to be able to use Stealth. Considering that usually you had to move before the attack as well, it may often be impossible to do it in one round without using abilities like Spring Attack or items like Quick Runner's Shirt.

If you can't see your opponent, you lose your dexterity bonus to your armor class. This rule is hidden within the description of Blindsense.

A creature with blindsense is still denied its Dexterity bonus to Armor Class against attacks from creatures it cannot see.

Being invisible has an additional benefit of providing you with a +2 to attack, and unfortunately there's nothing stating that you'd gain this benefit when using Stealth.

While there is a lot of circumstantial evidence that you'd gain that +2 to attack, there's nothing definitive.

Yes. The Sniping action allows you to make a ranged attack and avoid detection, with the added benefit that your opponents doesn't realize where you're hiding.

Stealth: Sniping wrote:
If you’ve already successfully used Stealth at least 10 feet from your target, you can make one ranged attack and then immediately use Stealth again. You take a –20 penalty on your Stealth check to maintain your obscured location.

This -20 penalty can be reduced to zero with feats such as Expert Sniper and Signature Skill: Stealth.

Sniping is a full-round action that (normally) yields one attack. If you make your Stealth check while doing so, you remain hidden.

If you have Hide in Plain Sight (e.g. from being a Shadowdancer or Ranger), you can make a Stealth check as part of a 5-foot step after sniping or making a full-round attack, but if the enemy saw you before that (e.g. because you failed your Stealth check while sniping or because attacking revealed your position), he knows what square you 5-foot-stepped into.

For that matter, if you have Hide in Plain Sight, you can make a standard attack (revealing your position) and then make a Stealth check as you use your move action.

The end of the first paragraph from the stealth description in the CRB:

Quote:
It's impossible to use Stealth while attacking, running, or charging.

You can make a single attack from stealth, catching a foe unawares, but you cannot, say, full attack in melee and then 5ft step around a corner and roll a stealth check, even with something like hellcat stealth or hide in plain sight. I personally rule that if you attack, then move into a covered position using a move action, you can stealth.
