Hey everyone.
I'm in the middle of writing a small campaign up and have a question on one of my players concepts. He wants to use the clockwork magic that has recently been put out and likes the idea of an engineer gunslinger kind of character so i suggested the spellslinger wizard archetype. However while comparing the base wizard's "arcane school" ability versus the spellslingers "school of the gun", I am not 100% sure on if they sacrifice picking a specialty school as well as the four opposition schools.
I see the text fall into a gray area and would appreciate feedback on how to rule this. Thank you all for your time.

Last line of the entry says 'this ability replaces arcane school' - that means that they don't get any of the school related benefits, including the universalist school benefit.
That is correct. You give up all of that for the very major benefits of the Arcane Gun, which is a really kick option for a blaster mage.
Key thing to rememember if you're taking this archetype, you're not going the Treantmonk route, you're an engine of destruction, and should build around that theme.

bobson, he is probably thinking of Open Design's Zobeck Gazetteer by Wolfgang Bauer and Christine Stiles.
