Best season to play through?

Rules Questions and Gameplay Discussion

Scarab Sages

So my friends and I are pretty new to the game, and we are slugging our way through season 4. We have access to all the base sets between us (how we got the base sets without being into the card game is another story) and I was wondering what is generally agreed upon as the best season? Season 4 seems. . . Hard. The first scenario bonds you over if you don’t have a couple of high-charisma people, and then there is the scenario where you take constant deck damage if you start your turn at an open location. Any other seasons I should look into if we decide to take a break from the slog and play other characters?

The organized play seasons are in general harder than the scenarios included with the sets. I can't really call any of them "easy", but I can call a number of them "interesting" :)

Try Season of the Runelords perhaps? Or Season of the Goblins if that's your type of thing.

I'm actually currently going through season of the Goblins Online. I'm playing as Red Raven/Aric, but flavoring him as Scribbleface, who has adopted the monicker as a vigilante who helps the tribe through the forbidden art . . . OF READING! We're only on the second mission, but you can follow along here:

Which makes some sense since they are more aimed at been played with Class Decks (i. e. more optimized) characters.

Generally speaking, we tend to assume Organized Play draws a more dedicated fanbase that will try to optimize their characters and want more of a challenge.

If that's not the case, of course, it's always good to hear.

I'd also encourage anyone playing the seasons at home and not part of organized play to tailor the difficulty to their own sensibilities, whether that's harder or easier.

Well, we are learning. The thing is: there are RPG incentives to play the PFS card game, so we decided to play a bit. It’s all legit, I reported it and everything, it’s just that there are no shops around here that support the game and none of them support organized play, so to play we gotta meet in someone’s house.

Current run through in season 4 with Aeowin (hunter) Talitha(magus), Raz(Paladin), and Zarlova(Cleric)

I wasn't aware of that assumption, and it's the exact opposite of my experience. I use Organized Play as a way to draw in new players. I run it on the same day that a local store runs AL, and occasionally snipe waitlisted players that end up not getting seated. I also sometimes get PFS RPG players that want to play to check boxes on their Faction Journal Cards, two of which had PACG goals this past year.

Conversely, I only play the box APs with my friends who already know how to play the game, many of whom were introduced to the game via Organized Play.

Ah. So, maybe you want to know which season gives the most RPG rewards?

If you're looking for RPG rewards then Season 3, without a doubt, has the most.

Season 0 - 1 reward
Season 1 - 1 reward
Season 3 - 6/7 possible rewards (without spoilers, one is a split scenario).
season 4 - 1 reward

Season 3 would also make the most sense since you already have the MM box to play season 4 so no extra purchases there outside of the Adventure PDF's.

Of course, if you're tired of the MM box and/or want to mix it up, try season 2 (ROtR box). I've found that one to be fairly tame due to the lack of triggers (MM) and army/skirmish barriers (WoTR)
