Hello, I was wondering who else is an Akashic addict by starting a thread about akashic characters, both NPC and PC past and present.

Some of mine are:

Dew of the Mountains, NG female Naiad Radiant
Str 6 Dex 14 Con 10 Int 14 Wis 15 Cha 15
Traits: Feywise, Water Touched
Favored Class Bonus: Skillpoint
Skills: Diplomacy, Handle Animal, Heal, Kn. (Nature), Perception, Sense Motive, Survival.
Feats: 1st Extra Essence, 3rd Life Bond, 5th ?, 7th Enhanced Capacity, 9th ?, 11th ?, 13th Share Veil.
Favorite Veils: Verdant Vambraces, Banelight Vortices, Martyr’s Toga
Vivification: 1st Ferocity

She is a nature scholar and healer, always super optimist, nice and joyful, but changes totally when she sees nature destroyed. She helps anyone protecting nature. Not very min-max-y but I really enjoy her ;)

Minu, LG female Shabti Nexus
Str 8, Dex 13, Con 16, Int 10, Wis 12, Cha 17.
Skills: Intimidate, Kn. Planes, Kn. Religion, Perception, Use Magic Device.
Traits: Devotee of the Old Gods, Undead Crusader
Favored Class Bonus: Skill Point

An Osirioni "reincarnated" priestess that escapes her fate as a warrior of heaven in favor of learning about the "underworld", represented by her Convergence progression: Convergences: Heavens 1, Underworld 1, 2, 3, 4, Heavens 2 (Cap would also be underworld)

Spark, CN female Ifrit Solar Zodiac
"you only need a spark to start a conflagration"
Str 13 Dex 17 Con 10 Int 8 Wis 10 Cha 16
Traits: Flexible Forms, Reactionary
Favored Class Bonus: +1 fire damage for sign weapons
Feats: first ones would be Extra Essence, Point-Blank Shot, with 3 essence she would be able to manifest both the fire armor and weapon at first level.

A free spirit, Spark likes conflict and watching things (and creatures) burn. She could work as an antagonist or friend for the party. Her weapon progression would focus on increasing the fire damage, so she can penetrate any fire resistances enemies would have.

I keep meaning to drop the pregens I made for my PaizoCon Special "Broken Lattice" in this thread, and I just haven't had free time and a laptop at the same time. Will try and remember this weekend.

It’ll be a couple days til I’m back at a reliable connection. When I am, I’ll be sure to contribute.

I'm playing a vizier, Brienna Soldado. She appeared as an NPC in Crimson Throne (which I ran). In that campaign (incredibly minor spoiler), she falls ill and the PCs are asked to help her. I lifted her for my new player campaign, and expanded that her father was Vudrani, and that the illness she suffered basically unlocked inherent akashic talent from her heritage.

Now she's in Magnimar (Shattered Star AP), trying to learn more about the very rare magic surrounding her.

Stats not terribly important, but so far I've reached 4th level without her ever wielding a physical weapon or physical armor, while the sharing front-line combat role with our party skald. My goal is to do that for the entire campaign.

Picking the right veils for the day is quite fun. This magic system has just enough fiddly bits to be enjoyable.

Here's some pregen characters I used for a recent game. Their tactics sheets include some background information and basic guidelines for how they play. Characters made using options from City of 7 Seraphs: Akashic Trinity and Classes of the Lost Spheres: The Zodiac, with some feats and veils from Akashic Mysteries.

Angel, Nexus (Heavens)

Azenar the Empty, Eclipse

Myracon, Radiant

Nalabash, Nexus (Elemental)

Olberg, Zodiac

Willful Throw? on a Nexus? thats like cheating LOL! Havent had the time to check all but at least Angel seems awesome!

It's definitely nice, but it doesn't kick in until 5th level for anyone who's not a Desire Daevic. I do dig it on Angel with that Sword of Justice though!

I mostly went with cool but easy to use stuff since these were pregenerated for a game where I didn't expect the players to have a lot of akashic experience.

I'll try and drop some more of my akashic characters next time I get a chance; I should have a wrestling guru, a couple different viziers, and a couple daevics in similar shape as the above pregens. Might be able to find my double-crossbow "door-buster" daevic I did some playtesting with while working on Spheres of Might.

Very nice character although all have a planar race... which is understandable. I particularly liked the Ifrit with all genie-based veils!

Yeah, they were actually all made for a game that involved a fair bit of planes-hopping and started at a major planar hub (the City of 7 Seraphs) so I went with an array of thematic races.

Nalabash is a personal favorite of mine, too. He's got a lot of versatility and power packed into a pretty easy-to-play build. Myracon is fun because you get your winged-unicorn-riding "fairy princess" but she's pretty complex to play, and Olberg being a Zodiac (Solar) is basically just an "akashic fighter", so super easy to play but might be too simple if you're really into the akashic system.

I've got a Rajah (Batal archetype) that got my DM to temporarily ban it because it's so ridiculous. Using a bow (with The Specialist veil for elemental arrows) and the Sword of the Sun King to blast out cones of akashic flame, then holding them in place with The Memory to strike again the next round. All this while healing my allies to tip-top shape. He thought I was trying to cheat until I walked him through the whole thing.

Uh, that sounds too OP but well, it is expected with initiators.

I'm currently playing an Aasimar(Emberkin)-Vizier(Seer) in a mythic campaign, and he has a Candle Drake(Lantern Dragonette)-Radiant as cohort. The Vizier fights a bit like Iron Man, with flight, high AC, and long ranged "beam" attacks via Hand Cannons/Storm Gauntlets(Twin Veil). He is exceptional at skill based encounters, and my party really enjoys the teamwork feats he shares via Akashic Army. Overall the my Vizier ends up filling the roll of party "wizard", but has also filled the rolls of diplomat, backup stealth, and backup healer. The Radiant was built to take some of the pressure off the party's life oracle healer, and to work in concert with the bard to further buff the group. He ended up doing those things almost too well, and also turned out to be very durable, with comparable HP and AC to some of the mythic party members.

I once made a Vizier/Fighter gestalt. I didnt play with him much 3-5 sessions.
I even edited what I think is a great automatic char sheet to keep track of all the bonuses.

Ival Galesworm
Character Sheet

Overall, when he hit it dealt a huge chunk of damage to the enemy.

I however couldn't do much (I played horribly). First, I nearly died to black tentacles. Then when fighting the "final" boss and cthulhu (or an aspect of him) I was blinded so I just went to hide behind a building. When the boss teleported to me, confused me, and sent me to outerspace.

Needless to say I got lucky and managed to enter a demiplane I had earned for completing the other missions.

It is funny to see the classical cleric cohort healbot but as akashic classes.

But nonetheless it sounds like a really fun character!

Another classic reimagined! I remember playing a fighter/sohei and a fighter/soulknife in 3.5. But mixing a full caster with a fighter just made hell broke loose.

A new one with the helmsman class from ArcForge by Legendary Games!

The Witch Rider
Female Changeling Helmswoman

A mysterious biker who wears a black tight leather or latex suit and an orange helmet with a Halloween pumpkin mottif. Her bike manifests the veil Reaper's Scythe, and using a combination of feats rides into combat like there is no tomorrow, abusing Ride-by attack.

I suppose a lance deals more damage, but wouldn't have that headless horseman vibe ;)

So you miss 1 multiple, you got the coolness to not care.

Also replace the helmet for a cat eared helmet and you got Celty (minus the dullahan part). Now I want to play that.

I playtested this fearsome lady over the weekend with some friends who were willing to brave the winter storm. Apologies for some of the mechanics not being fully detailed, they're part of currently unreleased materials.

Khanak is a wolger, a quadrupedal species possessing traits from both wolves and tigers (and sadly reflective of my inability to come up with a better name). Born to a tribe who worships the draconian constellation known as Sky King, Khanak is a mighty huntress whose tribe roamed the plains of the Quiet Lands, a war-torn demiplane located on a remote strand of the Lattice.

Khanak's tribe was all but wiped out when a Great Old One rampaged through the Quiet Lands, and Khanak herself only survived when the tribe's starcaller (their name for members of the zodiac class) was able to summon Sky King and force the elder creature to retreat.

Now Khanak has formed a new tribe, of a sort, comprised of other heroes of the Quiet Lands dedicated to stopping the incursions of the dark things that lurk beyond the edge of existence.

I'll try and pop the rest of the party up here when I have some free time. Spoiler alert, they're all zodiacs since I had a lot of different mechanics to test out. If you're not familiar with the zodiac class, you can find it here on Paizo or here at DriveThruRPG.

Dude, one of the most iconic monsters of D&D is called an "owlbear" because that's what it is.

And don't forget the FOWLBEAR! If anyone has played Knights of Pen & Paper 2 ;) By the way, KoP&P 1 and 2 are PC and Android games, worth the meager cost.

Wow, great character, but the weapons are really intriguing... And about the name well... What I do is look up words in foreign languages.Ijust found in Sanskrit the words for wolf and tiger and came up with Vyarkha (from Vrka wolf and ... uhm... Vyaghra tiger), which sounds fantastic enough ;)

The deluxe editions of both games are also available on Switch (which is where I discovered them)!

the xiao wrote:

I hoped they might be :)

I actually wrote two new Zodiac cosmologies and some supporting materials, one themed after the eastern zodiac (Monkey, Rat, Rabbit, etc.) and one inspired by something else. Khanak is from the "something else" category.

Not bad suggestions! I occasionally do the same thing as well, though I try to stick to languages I'm familiar with. Sometimes not having a firm understanding of a language or the culture that it came from can lead to embarrassing snafus.

In this instance though, the Quiet Lands cosmology and its supporting materials necessitated using somewhat different naming constructions than some of the previous materials, which will probably make more sense when the product releases (or when I get a couple more characters posted, whichever comes first).

There is Galaxy of Pen & Paper and it roooooocks! Oh, and since Sanskrit is a dead language no one is going to come and tell you off. To haunt maybe a posibility.

What kind of story elements are you looking for? There's the (relatively light) story components from Akashic Mysteries itself, the fairly in-depth planar pieces that accompany City of 7 Seraphs (which just builds out from the main introductory story elements in AM).

Mystara is a big enough setting that you could center the practice of akashic magic either outside the edges of the Known World or in small communities that generally don't have a significant amount of overlap with other people and cultures, or you could just kind of drop it right in the middle with the understanding that it's "always been there" if you're starting a new campaign.

You could make it a long lost art of the Nithians that's being revived in Ylaraum. Fits with some of the desert flavor parts.

This looks like a decent place to ask this question. Has anyone used veils to make magic items? Just wondering what you might have come up with.

It depends a bit on what you mean. I've used veils as full replacements for magic items in a campaign before, though it took a bit of shuffling. Basically all the magic items available in the campaign were veils that occupied the corresponding magic item slot, and they automatically became more powerful every five levels equivalent to an additional point of essence being invested. Each player also got 1 bind at 3rd level and every three levels thereafter, with bind availability equivalent to the various Access X Chakra feats.

Overall it works as a fun way to change up magic items, but I think that the fact we weren't playing any standard veilweavers was a big part of why it worked as well as it did. Another option you could potentially do, though this would only work if you were playing in a higher-powered game, is give everyone a veilweaving gestalt class so that they can just automatically hijack the veilweaving progression of the chosen class.

You could even do a kind of partial gestalt, where the character gets the veilweaving, essence pool, and bind progression of an appropriate akashic class but none of the other class features (maybe also Expanded Capacity bumps depending on how big an impact you want veils to have). So a wizard could get the veil list, essence progression, binds, etc. of a vizier as a replacement for magic items and consumables.

Whatever you do, you'll probably want to review the amount of wealth you give the party and adjust accordingly. About 40% of the recommended wealth by level in the CRB is assumed to be used towards magic items and consumables, so if you're giving those away for "free" in the form of veils you'll probably want to dial back the amount of treasure you're giving out accordingly so you don't end up with a huge shift in character power.

To go with the "reborn" stuff, you could kill the party, and they reincarnate as Humans, Samsarans, or Akashic races AND a similar Akashic class, and they are the first of the new generation of Akashic users.

Less extreme, something happens and the party all get an essence pool of 1 and a bonus Shape Veil feat, which gives access to a useful veil. Or not. But the party is then humted by akashic users and an npc offers to teach the party how to control their own essence to fight fire with fire.

Another possibility could be playing it as technology, with the ArcForge supplement by Legendary Games (I don't own it but have read some material in d20pfsrd), and extraterrestial androids (PCs or NPCs) arrive using new tech.

Maybe you can offer the next player who loses a character to start with one of the ideas I mentioned.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Not sure about ArcForge, but I can totally see veils as hard-light constructs and nano-machines.

If so, you could have them get kidnapped and experimented with, mutated, or "fall into a bath of raw magic or something" to gain veils. Similarly, if they die, you can have some scientist/mage transfer their consciousness to an android body with the free Shape Veil feat.

New character
Golem, male 1/2 giant warhulk aegis.

Raised in a colloseum and used as practice for other combatants, the lonely 1/2 giant was bullied since he can remember, despite his size and natural strength. Finally, during training, he manifested a clay-like suit that protected from being hurt, and could escape his fate. In his travels, he met a vizier who taught him how to augment his suit with akasha. "Golem" favors veils that help him tank, but since astral suits are very flexible he can change his veils to be more damageoriented or battlefield-controlling.

It's in layout right now, should be going up for sale in the very near future. It'll be the first in a product line of Akashic Realms handbooks that will be about the same size as The Zodiac.

Bolded added for clarity.

Also, since this is a character thread, I thought I'd share two of the characters from my Rise of the the Drow group!

Or at least their basic descriptions, with character sheets to come.

Sir Brekius Buzzknecht morphbear zodiac (lunar): Brekius is a morphbear, a race of Small magical beasts with an unusually strong connection to akashic magic and the elements who look like koalas with dragonfly wings and compound eyes and whose fur changes color depending on which element they attune to.
He's never far from his most trusted friend and companion, the constellation known as Terrabird. He wields a short spear and shield, and his favored veils are Cardinal's Cape and Perihelion Pauldrons. He is a staunch defender of his allies, though a bit overeager to prove that his knightly status is deserved and not merely the result of being cousin to the queen. The fact that his cousin the queen, and the country that knighted him, are on a different plane which he currently has no idea how to return to are entirely separate issues.

Clever Clyde creeper daevic (Knowledge): Clyde is from an often misunderstood species. Occasionally mistaken for bipedal turtles, creepers are actually living plants, distantly related to leshys but mutated by prolonged exposure to wellsprings of akashic magic. Clyde's slow movement and measured speech patterns often lead people to assume that he's much less intelligent than he actually is; thus his nickname "Clever Clyde" is both a subtle wink to those who know his true nature, and a warning to those who might underestimate him.
Unbeknownst to even his closest allies, Clyde's cleverness isn't just a reflection of his own intelligence. Contained within Clyde's body is the daeva Morek-Rah, a daeva of Knowledge whose insatiable drive to uncover the world's secrets feeds on and amplifies Clyde's own.

There's the Knowledge passion in Co7S, and every daevic has a daeva inside of them!

(Plus Knowledge daeva are going to be pretty word-intensive and there was no way the monster write-up was going to fit in the already enormous Co7S.)

But the existence of a daevic passion does mean that at least one daeva representing that passion exists in-world.

With the death of my leshy luchador Seed (aka Vendimio Picante) in our Monday night Return of the Runelords game, I've built Guthwulfe Saltsplitter as my new replacement character.

Guthwulfe is an Ulfen zodiac (solar), a daring sailor, and a general thrill-seeker. Along with his faithful goat companion Ram (the constellation) and his bow, The Archer, Guthwulfe sails Golarion's Inner Sea as a member of the Pathfinder Society. Upon arriving in Magnimar, he was asked by Venture-Captain Sheila Heidmarch to assist another group of adventurers in dealing with the dangers hidden deep within Hollow Mountain.

Guthwulfe has used Shape Veil x2 and Expanded Veilweaving to pick up the Immaculate Touch and Stellar Stompers veils. He also wears the Lion as his armor, boosting his fire-based benefits.

So far he's working out very well, though he's only been around for two weeks.

I guess I'll play.

Brienna Soldado is my first PC in our Shattered Star campaign. She's an NPC, lifted from Curse of the Crimson Throne, lightly recycled, and spat out as an empowered young woman. We've been keeping an ongoing continuity between our campaigns and I chose to revisit this NPC for that purpose.

The in-character backstory segment (on the page linked above) is probably the most illuminating with regards to her personality... she knows way too much and information just spills out of her.

Mechanically, she's pretty awesome for always having a useful veil. The only character I've ever played with more flexibility was El Brujo, my Hell's Rebels shaman.

@Anguish... deja vu? I think you already talked about her, but is nice to read about her accomplishments.

She's magnificent!

This is the custom image of our Wednesday night Rise of the Drow party, drawn by Jacob Blackmon and posted on his Deviant Art page. All of the characters are also playtesting some upcoming options, so they're all using akashic races and generally a couple other options from some upcoming Lost Spheres products that are not yet available for purchase.

I talked about them a bit early, but one had a bit of a name change and slight reworking, so from front to back they are:

  • Bartleberry the creeper daevic of Knowledge (secrecy)

  • Cereus, the cactusfolk radiant

  • Bokrug, the wyrmkin eclipse

  • Terrabird, an earth-element constellation that takes the shape of a large, flightless avian called a strider

  • And mounted on Terrabird is Sir Brekius Buzzknecht, knight of the Tri-Acorn court and Queen's Champion, a morphbear zodiac (lunar)
