Stealth and fly-by attacks with a wendigo

Rules Questions

Grand Lodge

So here is the situation. We had a wendigo attack us during a blizzard and it was impossible to kill with 4 players (level 15) and 2 pets.

The blizzard was caused by the creature (control weather) but the GM had it be immune to the sight issue; 20 feet max for us.

This creature has fly-by-attack and even with stealth (+26) it could move 60'. We all took the ready action for it to break stealth (right after it attacks) but how does that work with fly-by-attack?

I assume that as soon as it attacks stealth is broken we get our ready actions and the creature stops moving because we were "ready" for it to break stealth. Does that sound right?

Yup. Once it has broken stealth it visible and has to roll to try to stealth away. Also you should get AOOs on the way out. Fly-By-Attack does not negate AOOs and moving provokes. It needs to move to return to stealth.

Stealth ends the moment of its attack.

It could choose to try another stealth check as part of its continued movement after the attack, but it breaks stealth at the time of its first attack... thus triggering your readied actions.

Ninja'ed.

Wendigo swoops in. Wendigo attacks. Wendigo is visible. Readied actions occur. Wendigo (optionally, and only if still alive) finishes movement (provoking an attack of opportunity) and possibly becomes hidden again via Stealth.

also since its snowing, once he leave 20 ft he should be getting a large bonus (probably like with invisibility) for total concealment.

Thanks all. That was the way we were playing it, except for the "ready" action part. If we fight it again I guess we'll have to find a way to dispel the snowstorm!

Good luck! Wendigos are serious business.
