Opposition and Focused Schools for Elemental Wizards.

Rules Questions

I'm building a Wizard and I was wondering about Focused Schools. To be more specific, the Elemental Focused Schools. A couple of them are connected to 2 Elemental Schools. For example, Ice is a Focused School for both Air and Water. And Smoke is a Focused School for both Air and Fire.

If Fire is the selected Opposition School, how many spell slots would a Smoke Spell use up? It's both Air and Fire. Or does it only matter if you specialize in a Focused Elemental School to begin with?

Hello?

The focused elemental schools alter the base elemental school. A smoke focused is still either air or fire, and still chooses an opposed base school such as earth or water.

To my knowledge, there are no smoke spells. They generally still have the fire or air descriptors, thus if air or fire are your opposed, it would take up two. A spell such as icicle dagger has the cold descriptor, so an ice elemental wizard would not be able to prep it as their bonus spell slot, which would be either of water, or air.

Ah, ok. Thanks.

That's not to say the issue doesn't exist elsewhere: Heat Metal is both a Fire and Metal spell and Metal's opposition school if Fire.
