[3.5] Re-recruitment for two games: Savage Tide, Glen Gildor (home campaign)

Recruitment

Hello Everyone,

Looking for a game that won’t die out in the first three months? I am currently running two campaigns, in each of which am I looking to recruit one replacement player. Details as follows:

1) Savage Tide campaign
Yes, the classic adventure featuring pirates, dinosaurs, and demons. The party is currently 3rd level and assaulting the stronghold of their hated enemies, the Lotus Dragons. We’ve lost the player of our cleric, so we’d be looking for a healer type to slide in in his place. (Ideally, the player could take over the existing character during the current assault until we can insert his or her own character)

2) Glen Gildor campaign
This one is quite tricky and calls for someone up for a serious role-playing opportunity. The character in question, Proxia, is a 9th level Paladin/Ranger, but is nearly mentally broken. As an NPC, she led a number of commands that frequently ended badly, culminating in getting her and her followers captured by gnolls. After being rescued by the PCs, she continued to have a number of setbacks, with the last being failing in her attempt to raise a dead party member. She now lacks all self- confidence and filled with self-loathing. This is great challenge for someone with looking for a heavy RP opportunity to try to take this broken character and turn her around.

As noted, both games are using 3.5 rules, including almost all supplements. Also, it should be noted that games are being run on the Yahoo Groups boards. Posting rate can vary, but ideally players post every other day or so.

I am going to be out a fair amount this weekend, so apologies in advance is my answers to your questions are somewhat delayed

Thanks,
Merc

Hi there! Pirates, dinosaurs and demons... that sounds like good times. I would be interested in playing.

I’m looking for a single game to really sink my teeth in. I think taking over an existing character would help getting into the swing of things, and if there’s a chance of possibly creating my own down the line that’d be awesome.

Can I read some of the story so far to see if I can match up to the style and tone? What are your expectations of players (apart from posting frequently, I suspect ;))

Hi Lazy,

Sure, here is the game link: https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/SavageTideAP/info

And here is a Player's Guide to the Savage Tide AP:

Yes, of course frequent posting is always good. I like players that can write posts that have a lot of flavor as well as help drive the story forward. Obviously I'd like someone that is looking for a committed game and isn't going to disappear unannounced.

In terms of characters, if I have a choice between the two I'll take an interesting character concept over an optimized one. In fact, I can easily balance game play for a cool character even if they aren't quite as statistically powerful.

Definitely need to be a team player as well, I'm not interested in folks who disrupt the party because "that's how my character is".

Have fun. Make good posts that move the action forward. Be committed. That about sums it up.

Thanks for the information, it sounds like you're running the type of game i enjoy playing and reading through the game thread itself it really looks like a lot of fun.

I couldn’t get through the entire mail thread though because the yahoo mail setup with the mail threads and the replies gets a bit confusing to follow on my phone. I guess if I’m in it and replying myself I could keep track. But again, it looks like a really cool game and I’d love to take a chance on it, if you’d be comfortable with it.

The main thing I have is that i couldn’t relate to Tybalt all that much, and would find it hard to step into his shoes. If that’s a dealbreaker I completely understand, but if you need a character pitch at any point in time I’d be happy to see if I could come up with something decent.

So what 3.5 supplements are not allowed?

My Cleric will be a Neanderthal one eyed Viking cleric of Odin.

Vilheim Gunnarson

I played Savage Tide back in the day. Not to the end. We made it to the Colony Island. I think around 9th level or so. I love Cleric's and would have no trouble playing one. I would prefer to make my own but could finish up with the current guy until they finish the stronghold if that is easier.

I post multiple times a day. I sit in front of a computer for work so my pace is always up to the GM. I am active in a 4 year old game on here so I'm not going anywhere. 2 of my other games on here are around 2 years and the other 2 are newer as games go away on here not me :) I posted this as Hadran. You can look at the post in the Alias to get a feel for my style. This is the oldest game I have on here. It was originally a Solo game about a Fallen god seeking to reclaim power and redemption. We added a second character during recruitment and it has been a 2 person game that has went through 4 or 5 other people but me and the GM :) Hope to get a chance to play with you guys. Thanks. Shoot me a PM if you want. I will see that before checking back on this thread.

@Lazy -- do you have a character concept in mind? I don't mind at all if you aren't interested in taking over the current character temporarily, I only offered that to allow someone to jump in immediately, but no big deal either way. I am interested in what your ideas for a character might be though.

@Hadran -- I think I have most of the supplements, but I'd just ask people confirm particular ideas so I can OK them before hand.

Re your character concept--how wedded are you to the idea of Neanderthal and Viking? Or what idea do you have that would fit that background in for Savage Tide, which as you probably know is set in a warm, jungly climate? Because I'm wondering if you could play him similarly enough to your likes if he was Olman and had a background with the Crimson Fleet pirates instead?

Yes true forgot a bit about the region. I'm not tied to it at all. The backstory would have been a northman that had been blown way off course by a horrible storm. An only survivor and looking to get back out onto the ocean. So he would agree to join the group if nothing else then to get back out on the sea.

I like Frostburn. If your not crazy about the viking idea then yeah I don't need him to be Neanderthal.

So looks like you said no to Flaws for feats. My idea was to be Murky Eyed or whatever it was called, the flaw where you have to roll twice for the miss chance. This was to reflect him having only one eye.

On Feats, are you cool with divine metamagic? I use it for personal buff spells. It allows me to play a combat oriented cleric and keep spells free for healing and party support down the line.

Was considering doing the dragon born ritual as well. I can't remember what book that was in off hand. I don't think it was the Draconomican. Maybe it was.

Do you guys use book of Nine Swords? Let me know. I can start whenever. I don't check the boards much on the weekend so I may not reply back until Monday.

@Hadran

I like Frostburn a lot too, I'm using it in my other campaign. But, it is the middle of winter there, the party is entering the massive Scatterskull mountains, and there are frost ogre mages crawling around, so its and easy fit.

So I'm thinking through a way to make this work. Looks like there are three aspects to work on:

1) Ice magic/Frostburn. Well, certainly not a natural fit, but could the character perhaps be a sort of heretic that uses unusual-for-the-location magic? Could be. He could have been shunned by his tribe because of this.

2) Neandertal/Viking vs. Olman. Seems like this was the default as an explanation for the Frostburn magic, but if we use the heretic explanation above I think an Olman background still lets you play what you are looking for.

3) Dragonborn. I found this in Races of the Dragon, though it is only for Dragonborn of Bahumat. Just glanced through it, but seems odd that you'd get wings or a breath weapon with no level adjustment, so not so keen on it. BUT, what would be very cool IMO is some sort of "dinosaur born" linkage to the character's Olman background. We could definitely work on some variation of that if it appeals to you.

I think an Olman background would actually be a great addition to the campaign, once we get away from Sasserine.

Re Boook of Nine Swords, I have it but it is about the only one I disallow.

Yeah I'm not tied to Neanderthal, we can go Olman pirate/swashbuckler Cleric of Kord so big into Strength and athletics and competition.

@Hadran, just sent you a PM
