What's the best way on the new site to find a product I kinda know?

Website Feedback

I used to use the "search by publisher" option from the sidebar - it would take me to a page of gaming companies sorted alphabetically (so if I wanted the latest D&D adventure but couldn't remember the name I could go look at the wizards of the coast section, for example).

I just went to the store tab but couldn't see the equivalent. What's the best approach for me to replicate that? (I should stress sometimes I can't even remember the publisher exactly, so I'd like the ability to see a list of gaming companies too rather than having to search for it specifically).

Do you mean like this?

Yes! How did you get there? I couldn’t find that page in the new layout.

Hmm..although the “letter links” don’t seem to be working any more.

Actually, that whole page is messed up. It’s much shorter than it used to be and the “other W” link (for example) goes to a palladium book.

That page requires manual upkeep, and hasn't had enough attention. This one is populated automatically, and should be fully functional.

Thanks, Vic.

It’s not urgent, but the letter links along the top don’t seem to be working for me.

Can I ask how I could easily get there from the main page? (Or is that going to be resolved with the eventual “sidebar solution”).

That one is organized by brand, not manufacturer, and the "Other W" product is the last remaining product in Palladium's Weapon series.

Ahh, cheers.

From this page

In the top menu, click "Pathfinder"
On the new page, click "Roleplaying Game" for a drop down menu
From the menu, click "Adventures", or "Sourcebooks" or "Accessories"
On the new page, scroll down to the links under "See Also"

On the "Gaming" line, click "Roleplaying Games"

Thanks. I never saw that “see also” bit.

Do you know how to easily get to the page Vic linked? (Store by company)?

Hmm—you're right. I'll file that bug. Those links are actually same-page navigation, though—clicking the letter link should just scroll you down to the section with that letter.

In the top navigation, go to the Store page. Scroll down to the product category display, and just above it on the right, you'll see "Browse: By Company or By Brand." Click "By Company." ("By Brand" is currently busted.) This has never been a primary navigation mode, so it has never been super prominent, and probably won't be in a sidebar link.

(I am really hoping we can rip out and replace a lot of the current store navigation by the end of the year; I have long had ideas about how to make it easier to use *and* easier to maintain on the backend, but we have a bunch of other things that have to happen to make that possible.)

Thanks Vic. FWIW, I used it a lot previously - it was in the old sidebar.
Now I know where to look, I’m good. :)
Thanks!

A lot of old brands have disappeared as their last products became unavailable, and a lot of newer brands have never been added.

Yeah, my apologies - I thought I was looking at the company list. I never realised there was a search by brand facility!

Would have been very useful over the years, although I can appreciate it’d be a lot of work for what is probably a pretty arcane feature.

I’ve been having a lot of trouble searching your store, Vic. I’ll admit that I’ve been using google to find product pages lately. There needs to be a better way of currently searching the store.

Hmm

Yes, there does!

In the near term, you'll see the return of letting you choose whether you're searching for products, blogs, or messageboard posts (like we had in the before-time). A significant overhaul won't happen for a bit, though.

Alright, good to know that it’s coming. Thanks for the update!

I should mention that you do currently have those options to refine your search once you've searched once... you just can't specify them before you search right now.

Any idea when you will be fixing the problem where products disappear when you try to refine your search to them? This problem seems to be particularly prevalent with searches for miniatures -- the "Everything" tab might have several of them for a given search term, but the "Products" tab and the "Miniatures" link often have nothing.

There seems to be an issue with how the header search field results get generated and filtered. We're looking into it. In the meantime, you should have a more productive experience by repeating the same search from the search box on the search page. You will likely end up with more comprehensive results, and the filtering will similarly be more consistent.

Where is this search page?

Paizo Employee Chief Technical Officer

He means the search results page—the page you get when you search using the search box at the top of every page (or, if your window is narrow, in the pop-up menu on the upper right corner).

The search box I see at the top of this page is “Search this thread”.

Am I missing a more general search option?

Paizo Employee Chief Technical Officer

If your browser window is wide enough, there will be a search box in the middle of the black header at the top. If the window is narrower (including most mobile devices) you'll see a little menu icon at the right side of that box; clicking that brings up a menu that has the search box at the top.

I was missing it because I was doing it on my iPad. On my laptop it is more obvious.

Thanks for the reply!

Ah, I see now. I actually have to search twice, once using the big box at the top and then using the smaller box that comes up under it on the search results page. I think I looked everywhere but there for the "search page".
