Ultimate Campaign - buildings and employees

Rules Questions

Liberty's Edge

Hi all. I'm enjoying the downtime rules presented in this book, but I'm just unsure about one thing -- if you build a building, does it come with employees already? If not, how many do I need to hire to make the building functional? Let's say I built a tavern. Do the cooks, barkeep, etc already come as part of the cost you pay to have it built?

That is my understanding. Buildings and Teams are independent; you can have either or both, but they stand alone...

Be careful using the downtime subsytems, they can be unbalancing.

Each room in a building created with the Downtime rules presented in Ultimate Campaign or in Kingmaker is assumed to attract NPCs sufficient to let it generate whatever income is listed. You don't receive any additional benefit from such NPCs since you didn't pay for them.

On word of caution: Owning buildings and teams can generate a lot of income in the way of resources. To balance that out events are suppose to happen and if the owner isn't around there is a very good chance the business will go rogue and need to be reclaimed as a sort of adventure. Having loyal NPCs running a business is one way to prevent that. By loyal, I kind of mean a cohort or follower from the Leadership feat and you're GMs approval.

Actually, make sure the GM is totally ok with you doing this before you start. Those rules are easy to abuse.

Just for rules sake, here's the rule

Ultimate Campaign wrote:
For a room, the Earnings amount already subtracts the cost of having unskilled employees to do the basic work for you. For example, the Earnings listed for having a Bar already account for the wages of a bartender and servers. For a team, the Earnings amount assumes they are working at a building you own. If you don't provide a building for the team to work in or from, halve the Earnings for that team.

So they have unskilled labourers, but you can improve on that by adding a team.
