Devil with a fire subtype?

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Silver Crusade

Hey everyone, maybe I'm missing something but are there really no Devils that have the fire subtype? Not really looking at the archdevils, just the (basically) rank and file devils. It's mostly for a flavor detail, but I'm looking at making an Ifrit Wishcaster for Pathfinder Society. Instead of the genie granting wishes deal, though, I was looking to make it more "deal with the Devil" type thing, and wanted to have my character be in a line of descent from a devil.

It just seems odd that, since Hellfire is an archetypal power of devils, there are none that even have the fire subtype.

Silver Crusade

If you’re descended from a Devil then you’d be a Tiefling, not an Ifrit.

As for why not, Hellfire is associated with them and they all have Fire Immunity but they're not made of Fire, their emphasis is on Evil and Law.

Silver Crusade

Actually, Ifrit also works, because the only stipulation is "descended from a being of elemental fire, such as Efreet", so any outsider with the fire subtype works, it's just that the Fire gene won out over the Evil gene, so, for example, a Brimmorak could be the progenitor of either a Tiefling (due to being an Evil outsider) or an Ifrit (due to being a Fire subtype outsider).

Silver Crusade

Brimorak is a demon and doesn’t have the Fire subtype, so they can’t produce Ifrits.

Edit: Actually different sources say different things let me double check.

Except that hellfire isn't elemental fire. It's hellfire. It only does half fire damage.

Silver Crusade

Yep, Bestiary 6 removed their Fire Subtype from the Brimorak.

Silver Crusade

Okay, I was looking at the original version. Don't have the Bestiary 6.

There's nothing that says a fire creature has to be the only blood in your bloodline. Maybe your elemental ancestors did make a deal with a devil that corrupted their wishcraft. You don't need to be a direct descendant of a devil to have that bloodline.

Silver Crusade

They weren’t asking about Bloodlines but being an Ifrit that came from an Evil Outsider rather than a Fire one.

Though I had forgot that Infernal Bloodline was a thing. So Ifrit Wishcrafter (Infernal) might work for OP.

Ukobach or Tinder Devils possessing the [Fire] subtype would be thematically appropriate. I would even go so far as to say that their lack of the subtype is a definite oversight.
