I was wondering if it is possible for a GM to earn credit for a character that has the Society Shepherd boon if they bring a new player and wind up running a game as opposed to playing in one. I know there have been some clarifications on the new player not needing to be at the same table, but I was not seeing any clarification on whether you had to play a character to get credit for the boon.
It seems like a matter of trust for a GM that is also running the game for the new player.

GMs can slot items otherwise they would not earn reputation.
The SFS Roleplaying Guild Guide details GM rewards on page 16. Note that it does not say anything about the GM slotting boons (bolding mine):
“Full credit” means the GM gets the following: 1 XP for the scenario, 100% of the maximum credits for the subtier most appropriate to the GM’s character, 2 Reputation for any one faction for which the character has a Faction boon, and 2 Fame.
I have asked about this a couple of times and there hasn't been an official clarification yet, but Thursty says he's looking into it.
Kevin Willis wrote:That is something that has a lot more potential ramifications. Let me pass it by some co-workers before I go out and make a ruling. Before the summons runs out, can we get confirmation on one other subject?
Does the GM get to slot boons?
(In particular boons such as the Acquisitives “Known Quality” that affect downtime.)

Official Clarification: A GM applying a Chronicle sheet from a scenario she GMed can earn the benefits of boons the character receiving the Chronicle sheet could have potentially slotted. The GM's character must have the appropriate boon slots available on that character (so no slotting two social boons that trigger based on completing a scenario.)
In addition, this ruling also applies to GMs potentially receiving any of the "meta boon" rewards. Unlike other boons, these special slotless boons can be achieved when you meet the conditions while GMing a session you do not receive a Chronicle sheet for (such as GMing a scenario you've already received GM credit for.) The GM can take a Chronicle sheet for that session, clearly marked as "NO CREDIT", but with a notation about achieving the meta boon requirements. This can be then be applied to a character applicable for any of the associated meta boons.
The following boons are considered "meta boons":
Digital Presence
Purveyor of Fortunes
Society Shepherd
Theoretical Historian
Worldwide Explorer

We're going to look at moving the ships into their own Community Use Document
If possible, it'd be awesome if that Community Use Document had a re-issue of the super-helpful Starship Actions by Role Cheat Sheet (like pages 29-34 from the Into the Unknown quest!) with the new updated Starship DCs!
