Are there any good grand hex's worth taking?

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Silver Crusade

So after looking up summon spirit, and having pointed out to me how much it is left to the will of the DM and whether he isn't a giant gaping jerk or not.

Are there any grand hex's worth taking? Cause frankly from what i can tell they all kinda suck.

Life giver could be useful for the free resurrection, if your party doesn't already have access to it through shades or the like.

Abominate can be an amazing long-term buff for your whole party, so long as you don't mind looking like a pack of horrifying monstrosities.

Forced Reincarnation is effectively immortality for the witch. What's a little agony to be reborn in a new, young adult body every fifty or so years? Sure, it's not an amazing combat ability, but you don't have to take a grand hex. Just pick different ones if you want.

Forced Reincarnation is a really funny thing to do to a Ancient dragon who needs bringing down a peg xD

Abominate could possibly be cool.
Acts as as Baleful Polymorph, but works like Monstrous Physique IV except you use Aberrations instead of Monstrous Humanoids.

So you can
-turn someone into an Aberation permanently
-give him Monstrous physique IV
-have the only ability that transforms into aberrations
-replace his mental ability scores and class feature aside of class levels with all of the creature abilities on a second save

If I read this right, you could use this as a really broken buff spell on allies. If you are sick of it, just dispel.

If your GM is a giant gaping jerk, you have larger problems. : )

Yep! Take a look, for instance, at the veiled master aboleth.

Doesn't that still come with the restriction of no more than 1 HD?

Are there any 1HD aberrations? In small, medium, and large sizes? I’m going to say no to that restriction.

It should also end any ongoing magical effects, and remove any equipment the target is wearing. It's not mind-affecting (and might remove racial immunities), and it isn't even a death effect (otherwise, the reincarnation part couldn't work as per the spell description).

All that's presuming that the reincarnation is instantaneous and does not take the usual 1 hour - otherwise, the hex is ridiculously overpowered.

Spreadsheet says Grindylow (small, B2) and Sagari (tiny, B3).

I'm awfully fond of Death Interrupted from Healer's Handbook.

Why raze a village when you can raise a village.

...Wow. Infinite free raise deads without the death effect/dead too long limitations? Am I reading that right?

Well as far as "too long" limitations the soul has to be "available," so it gives the GM an out to decide it's already been judged if it's been a particularly long time.

I believe that the Life Giver hex has unlimited potential.

Witch: Waiter, my porkchop is a little underdone.
Waiter: Oh? Let me see?
Porkchop: Squeeeeeee!

Enemy druid wearing +5 Dragonhide breastplate? Now he's wearing a +5 Dragon!

Resolve mysteries instantly!
Witch: Who did it?
Murder Victim: I dunno.
Witch: Oh well.

Get into wacky adventures with your hosts after you've resurrected your goats after killing them for food and found that they've broken a bone when you've told them not to!

...and so on.

It does read like that. Has the downside that it doesn't repair the body, though, so grave injuries or rot* would make the target immediately die again.

*) And now we know what the voodoo priest used to resurrect LeChuck in Monkey Island 2.
